Runs and looks reasonably well, albeit with Nvidia gimmickry, but whatever.
This one feels a bit more grounded, as opposed to the previous one which was way too weird for my liking. The story and a the political backdrop is a bit on the nose, even if attempting to be satirical. Any wokisms are not pronounced enough for me to be taken aback. The humor is passable, but it balances dangerously to cringe.
Has some immersive sim elements, which is a good thing in my book. The combat and gunplay feels a bit stiff to be honest.
I skimmed through a bunch of reviews and I haven't seen one mentioning how bad is the companion's AI.
Charging out of cover, running into grenades, using the abilities in the wrong position is the norm. They can't even resurrect each other.
On the other hand, the enemy AI is tracking you through cover with pinpoint accuracy and most of the time completely ignores your teammates, unless you are out of sight.
I hate companions in these sort of games, lol, why do they even bother with it when they clearly can't make a good enough AI for it to actually work.
All you do will be rolling your eyes at it.
I'm realy wondering btw why the publisher though it's a good idea to release a single player game without Denuvo and asking players to pay a 100 bucks for the 5 day early acces. What can go wrong .
Using Denuvo on a game like this would likely cost them more than they'd make on the sales. Realistically this is just another Gamepass game to make it look like it has any value. If anything, not having Denuvo probably gets them some good will, something the game itself is unlikely to do.
I don't understand why they even bothered making a sequel to such a nothing game.

Since you are clueless and don't see how the industry works, let me enlightened you:
For Microsoft to have reasons to - at some point - dissolve Obsidian due to their games being financial failures.

Just another Gamepass game or not, I'm actually enjoying this one a great deal.
It's not Fallout: New Vegas, but nothing will probably ever try to be that. Not even the remake, if one will happen in the distant future.
The writing ranges from fine to good and stays constant between these two margins. It's a bit lighter on the satirical humor, but you'll hear a funny joke every now and then. The companions are probably the weakest aspect of the writing, but I don't think the writers indented for them to be something else than another way to interact with the world and the narrative. I don't mind that, the companions don't have to be these walking philosophical theses in all RPGs. Though I wish they were more involved in and outside dialogues.
The gameplay is very engaging. The skills allow you all kind of layers of interactivity opening new ways to deal with problems and solve missions. The level design contributes to this by often providing multiple pathways while not shying away from verticality. I often feel like I'm playing a shock-esque lite game and I love that.
AI issues aside, the combat can be quite fun. There is a variety of weapons to choose from and I found many to be quite satisfying. The gunplay leans towards Borderlands, but they made it very satisfying.
The character progression is cool even without having attributes. The perks and flaws make you think about stuff and given that melee and stealth are suitable options, you can build some cool characters.
I can't say much about the choices and consequences. It's the typical Obsidian formula of solving the conflict in an area which leads to an outcome based on your actions. Nothing impressed me yet in this regard, but the consequences are there.
The sense of exploration works for me, despite what I've seen in some reviews. Maybe because I'm playing on the highest difficulty and the economy is really tight right now. I'm in a constant need of resources and finding new shit to do is always welcomed.
Overall, The Outer Worlds 2 seems like a big step up from the original, the latter just had more interesting and active companions, as far as I remember.
It was meant to be a toy looking universe from the beginning. It's satire taken to the extreme. I don't mind it, but I can see how it can rub someone the wrong way.

Thank you jeebus (and Nodrim)!
Will check it out... whenever I bother upgrading my 3070 that is.

Herpaderp this movie is meant to be bad so its good! Dørp
This concept works if it works, if not its just a massive fail. Takes considerable skill to pull it off and its best to just make honest games without any unnecessary bullshit.
In a game like Fallout the humor works cause the game has a serious tone and the humor is secondary and you can ignore it if it's not your taste cause it's such a small part of the game.
With this game they went all in with the comedy and since that is subjective to taste and so upfront it can anoy a lot of people. Think it's a bit over the top tbh personaly. So if you're not into this humor you'll have a harder time to enjoy the game.
It's a poor design decision.
Played the prologue last night. It's whatever. It's not the worst thing, at least not in the prologue. It does however feel like they're trying too hard to do the funny. The shooting is serviceable. The enemy AI is bad, not companions yet so dunno on that. I don't like the UI, especially the big fucking prompts when you can use a skill, just looks ugly.
There's some charm here and there, but I cant' say more with how little I played. There is one thing that really bothered me.
Spoiler:
That ending cutscene of the prologue. What the fuck? Why do it that way? Like you could have had her already with her hand on the lever ready to pull, or just maybe having already initiated the whole thing and just stalling so you had no time to stop it, so she runs on a beep when the countdown start, or maybe you know .. on the last 10 sec or whatever. Instead you just have a conversation, and even though you use the option where you clearly say you'll kill her, she has time to give a snarky reply, turn around and fiddle with some knobs, before pulling the lever. Like what? Your character could stop her easily, but he just stands there in a cutscene. Why? It could have been done so much better.
And that, more than anything, makes me doubt the rest of the game. Because it shows they don't care enough.
Edit : Having gave it a bit of a go again past the prologue... This is the worst performing UE5 game I've ever played. Also, it looks like shit, so dunno what exactly would justify that. I don't know, maybe the latest Nvidia drivers could make a massive difference, but realistically, I don't expect them to, nor am I all that eager to upgrade drivers with how shit nvidia has been with them this year.
And it's again, sliders that are just there for show. Like outside global illumination, reflection and shadows, the rest do pretty much nothing. Even RT on/off doesn't seem to affect fps much. And as far as dlss, the range from ultra performance to quality is only around 20 fps. Again, just extremely poor scaling. And it's not even 4k, even 1440p it just runs poor. I don't know.
Wuchang ran at close to 90fps 4k everything maxed. Silent Hill F runs well above 60 4k with everything maxed as well. Obviously Ark Raiders ran about as good as Wuchang, Cronos runs at 60+ 4k. This however struggles hard, going as low as high 30 fps in certain places and I'm talking 1440p without everything maxed and dlss on balanced/performance. I don't know. At 4k, even with ultra performance it can't hold 60, again not maxed settings.
Performance is fine? Using the new drivers though and framegen 2x.
For me it runs like any other game in 1440p at 60+ fps with my low end rig. Mid-high settings, basic ray tracing.

I mean, it isn't fine, is it ? You're talking about running a game that looks like a 2015 game with mid-high settings and dlls +framegen to get 60 fps at 1440p.
By the way, if you aren't getting 60 fps without framegen, that 60+ with it feels like absolute dogshit. Sorry, but what are these mental gymnastics, trying to excuse these titles? Even with unreal you can do a far better job then this. I already gave examples of games running much better with unreal on the same system with higher settings. And those games, all of them look better than this.

You must be one of those guys who sees high numbers and thinks the performance is good.
The game doesn't run well. I have 120+ fps with framegen and it feels like crap.
