I follow it on Steam, the reactions to their updates and videos usually stops in the 20 Likes range. In comparison, the indie game Schedule I had over 9000 Likes / thumbs up for one of their recent updates. Yeah people seem super excited for this one
20 minutes in, game looks like what it is: a game made for VR. Lackluster graphics albeit serviceable. Exploration is fine, puzzles aren't a welcome addition imho, aliens are derp and exhibitionists that open arms animation, lol. Atmosphere is ok if not bland so far.
For comparison, AVP 2010 Marine Campaign felt more gritty, meaty and dready than this. Dunno if I'll keep playing it. Nice thing though, has the A:I lore into account.
Oh, and about pulse rifle: lacks punch, sound (what the hell is that repeating snippet of audio, bring back the flanger burst ffs!) and the "bullets" look like a paintgun sans the decal. Stupid.
• very different than AI (despite Steam bots claiming otherwise)
• no immersive movement
• no footstep sounds
• environments lack detail
• performance is weird - there's a jitter (microstutter) even at 40% GPU / 50% CPU usage @60FPS
• has atmosphere
• has body awareness
• has other subjective small details that I like
IMO, the Alien universe deserves and has the potential for much, MUCH more.
managed to finish it, def a vr game, probably more intense and overall better in vr too. the non vr lacks but its not that bad, has that alien isolation look, good atmosphere, some metroidvania style levels, but that vr intensity is gone, guns lack punch and the aliens are not scary at all unless they sneak up to u, story is ok.
its short enough but probably double the length in vr, wouldnt mind part 2
Just in WAB videos, look at slow xenomorphs waiting to be shot When I think of xenomorphs, I think of slow zombie like wobbleheads that just stand and wait. Such an authentic experience.
ofc, the alien in isolation was true horror, here just too many of them that die fast, some wait in the ceiling and some sneak behind, but too many of them that only makes them not scary
The aliens look quite miserable indeed, almost like men in Xeno suits. I've recently replayed Aliens versus Predator 2 on Hardcore, now that was an accurate depiction - lighting fast and absolutely vicious (as they should be). When you hear the motion tracker beep, it's often already too late

What is "scary". Aliens is not a horror movie, it's a tense suspense action flick, and still, xenomorphs there move fast and are still true to what was established in Alien. Here they just stand around waiting to be shot.
they sometimes move here fast too but the spawn rate is too high and they die fast and plenty of bullets so there is no tension so not scarry
like i said, maybe in vr is high tension, its very atmospheric at times so in vr i could imagine looking really good but the transition to non vr something was lost. i finished alyx in vr and was big immersion, then saw the non vr gameplay and looked very bland so yeah
