Explore a World on the Brink – Wander through post-crash New York, uncover secrets in Hong Kong’s back alleys, infiltrate bunkers under Paris, and dig through the depths of Area 51. Every location has new visual fidelity while maintaining the same dystopian tension and conspiratorial paranoia that made the original game so iconic.
Choose Your Build – Breach locked systems. Hack firewalls. Cloak and vanish. Every level, every mission, every outcome can be rewritten with your chosen nano-augmentations. No run plays the same. No choice is without consequence.
Visual Enhancements – Reimagined lighting, dynamic shadows, water physics, particle effects, and fully updated textures breathe new life into the dystopia. Brand-new character models with smoother lip-sync animations and ragdoll physics to complete the transformation
Immersive System Upgrades
Quality-of-Life Enhancements – Autosaves, faster loading, achievement tracking, and cloud saves across supported platforms.
Controller Support – Refined radial menus, fluid weapon management, and streamlined navigation, all adapted for modern controllers.
Multi-Screen Support – 4K-ready user interface, ultrawide and multi-monitor display support.
so instead of 2001 visuals its 2004 visuals, yes slightly higher textures (i compared to the ones i've made for this game, these are lower res). We get normal maps, which was starting to be a norm around 2004'ish. A few meshes here and there will look better.
1.1 downvotes vs 1k upvotes. yes indeed, absolute slop.
i mean... you're not even trying
while my textures might not win awards, they also didn't take me more than a few tries to make + i am not a studio.
its with the old engine, no normal maps etc. theyre much closer up too = looks far worse than when zoomed out like in their image.
The legendary JC Denton deserved more than a remustard featuring some art direction from the early Xbox 360 era along with obligatory gamepad-centric radial menus and UI. Alas, that reflects the current state of the franchise and the once glorious immersive sim genre as a whole.
I would have loved to see a proper, full-fledged remake à la System Shock, but that goes beyond Aspyr's capabilities. What a shame
there's another bigger project too (DXU24), more of a remake, that one looks 100x better than this ""remaster"". who knows if its ever released though.
reminds me, gotta check his discord channel, i bet people are having a big laugh over there
That last one, the lighting is so fucked looking. The wall to the right is BLACK ffs
The UI elements, the text spacing in the message from Jacobson as well. Pretty gross. Some things were very much fine as they were. They're clearly showing PC screens since each item has a number in it. And they didn't redo the icons which look blurry and upscaled
Now you too can go back and play games in 1/2 the resolution and texture size your memory remembers it was back then, instead of 1/4 of that
At least that is what happens to me, even remakes I go: This...seems worse than I remember the original being before this remake/remaster/redo.

Using someone's voice without approval is next level retardation. Of course you're gonna get sued. It's maybe one thing if a modder does it for free for a small group of people, but trying to profit of it...
If its compatible with new textures we can at least mod it to something more decent eventually..
