I think they put a lot of effort in the VO. That gibberish is perfect.

I am sure they also used bots to hype it. The minute it got released all gaming related Reddit subs got spammed with "Silksong already best game ever!", "Silksong crashed Steam!". "Silksong can be played on phones!" etc.
Guess it's still a good game, but rarely seeing anything like this (other than Clair Obscur, most recently).

i am extremely surprised overall at some Overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam.
Stick it to the Stickman and Rounds are two recent games i've purchased which are such games. At best they're 6/10 games, if you are really, really into that genre, so just an unreasonably high score.
And no, it's not just a matter of "taste" for these games, they're just not near being that good. Bought them when my friend was here because we like these sort of couch co-up games, both just hated these games, so bad. Slop made in maybe 2-3 months i would estimate.

tried playing the first one and didnt liked it, felt like its the "souls" version of 2d platformers, thats probably why it got such a cult following. and this new one has been in development for so long it got like bloodborne pc status
I can see your soul at the edges of your eyes..

Tbh I didn’t click with HK either after playing it for the first couple hours. Restarted it a month or two later and it ended up being one of my favorite games of all time. It’s basically the perfect metroidvania. It’s serene, beautiful, satisfying combat, punchy art style, exploration and level design are top notch. Not to forget the music-fantastic. IMO if anyone is playing it and doesn’t quite understand why it’s so good, wait till you get to the first major city. If you do and still don’t like it, it’s not for you

Metroidvania is like soulslike. This is a drop in the ocean. Too many of them and most are too busy doing the exact same things and this is the same. Im ok with souls games as long as the quality is good, but metroidvania... its just so many times i can do the routine of traversing a big map to find upgrades, return to previous area and access new place rinse and repeat the whole game. Its.. blah. I loved it with castlevania and shadow complex, first ori. bit now... no.

Overhyped garbage. Looks and plays like an indie game from 15 years ago, nothing new or interesting to see here.

The game is poorly balanced. It's as if the endgame of Hollow Knight is the midgame of Silksong.
I'm maybe missing something, but the character progression was smoother in the original game. The build variety was also better.
Some combat encounters are just tedious. There are some incredibly long walks to boss figthts.
It's stupid to have combo keybinds in 2025.

What's a combo keybind?
I would agree the balance is off. Too many enemies damage you for 2 hearts especially in the beginning, and on top of that you need a full bar of silk/soul to restore 3 hearts. Whereas in HK you could top up health little by little as you earned soul by hitting enemies.
HK was a lot harder on release as well and it got nerfed and i expect this game to follow suit.

Ah yes i really hate this one.. its so unintuitive hold up and a button, that is also used for another action that can take away of your healing bar if you miss it.
Just can't get used to it and i guess i wont be using those much, specially in boss battle when its so distracting to have to do it while trying to avoid enemy bumping into you.

Ill chime in, i never really bought into Hollow knight when it came out, i only played it years later on the switch when i started grabbing all the roms. I personally played it without knowing the hype and praise and i call it one of my best games ive played, the movement, jumping and fights feel like no other 2d game, the whole package was 10/10 for me.
Silksong so far has proven to be another game that has made me go back to gaming and enjoy it, Zelda TOTK was the other one. I would say both Hollow knights are worth their rating and hype.

I'll give this a shot. Not sure the graphical style is 100% up my alley but if it its fun it wont matter that much.
Is the second seen as some improvement over the first, or only more of the same?

It's not too exciting of a quest, but you can get multiple items from just 1 enemy, so its not too bad

Just finished act1, amazing boss. About 15 hours in. Anyone who's having excessive difficulty with the game, you need to (minor item spoilers) Spoiler: | find the Wanderer's Crest that basically gives you the first game's moveset, it's got shorter range but you attack much, much faster, and your down attack is straight down instead of that 45 degree bullshit. |
I guess the runback to the A1 boss got people pretty tilted but for me it was 30 seconds max. Still annoying but nothing to rage about. But yeah there's no need not to have a bench closer to the boss, this is just padding game length, but its easily fixed.
My main issue with the game are things that CANT be fixed as they are baked into the design of the game. The quests as mentioned above, are usually some MMO fetch quest shit, get 25 of some item crap and there are a lot of them.
The BIGGEST flaw of the game is the talking protagonist. I understand she talked in the first game so its only logical that she talks in this one, but the problem is you can piece together some murky lore just from playing the game, and in the next dialogue with an NPC, she'll basically explain it all with some clumsy exposition. Show, don't tell.. this isn't a goddamn JRPG.
Kind of kills the mystery of the game that they absolutely mastered and apparently forgot how to do in this game.

it's quite a bit different IMO. I would wholeheartedly advise you play the first game before playing this one.. it's definitely a more cohesive and immersive game.

I do feel like the discovery in this one is a bit more guided, the first one was basically constant awe and trying to theorize about everything i was seeing, i ended up having to look at Youtube videos about the lore because of it. Silksong kind of explains and guides the player a bit more, still enjoying it tho, hope the lore is a deep as the first one's

The sense of discovery is totally off. Finding a secret gives me no joy because there are no rewards worth mentioning.
Overcoming challenging encounters provide no rewards, but dying can be quite taxing.

I like it so far. My main complain is the lack of cohesion in the narrative, hollow knight was bad in that regard, this one is worse :/
It feels a bit aged though. Otherwise iws the experience is similar to playing the first one back then. Ive played around 5h
