If even the "gaming journos" dunk on them yoou know its bad.

Ubi is facing backlash to some ugly changes to XP and Renown gain in Siege X. The amount of Renown (Siege's free currency used to unlock operators and many cosmetics, but not all) earned simply for playing matches has been slashed dramatically, in some cases by 200% or 300%.
What difference does that make anyway? How are they gonna make you destroy your discs? Ban your terminated account? Or send black ninjas on your address to search and destroy them?

Ubi is pushing the idea of not owning your games really hard.
Even if it was physical you dont own it is the message i guess.
They are basically doubling down.

There are so many great indies that i can hardly keep up, never been a better time to be a gamer. if you selectively look at AAA games you might think its the end of gaming. Personally i rarely ever play such games.
I recently bought a switch 2 and i am having a lot of fun, just pure gameplay and no BS, even in the big titles. Though i was very sad to see that the new Metroid Prime seems very western influenced, like they want the game to fail, because they certainly can't have been blind to how people do shy away more and more from those games, yet they want to replicate it. But whatever, the franchise is overrated overall i think.
They just fail at making interesting games, with enough to keep it interesting till the end, they should look at BG3 and the success it created. A lot of money earned there, and I liked the game very very much.
When you look at Far Cry the entire map is the same gameplay experience, same enemies, although tougher. More variation would be nice.

i hope they're not looking at BG3. it has no immersion, no NPC schedules, no day and night cycles even, very cringe characters and dialogue, typical downfall of RPG's imo, typically made for the MoDeRn AuDienCE. While it has good combat i think the rest is absolute slop and woke garbage.
I have no idea how that game succeeded, i guess the appeal is for age 15-25 somewhere and they really hit home there, same people who download nude mods for skyrim...
if they look at bg3 = "oh cool we can skip day night cycles, no one cares!" "oh cool, we can skip the whole "living, breathing world", people don't care!" "oh, gotta focus on making people chose if they want a foreskin or not, - those are the things that matters in A ROLE PLAYING GAME!!!11"
Everyone liked it, even those that hate woke, but I am the only one that hates it, it must be shit then if I am one of the rare people that hates that game!
Far from it, if you look at almost any dedicated RPG forum with old farts such as RPG codex the hate for BG3 is pretty intense.
I am not saying it's not a success, it absolutely is, but my bet is the people who bought it and loved it are, again, the same people who download nude mods for Skyrim. Those mods are some of the most well loved and by far the most downloaded, but i wouldnt qualify them as quality or the best mods ever done just because of that.. it has appeal and for a specific age group who loves that stuff. same can be said for some mobile games, they have millions of players but are in reality shit games, they just happen to appeal to a very large audience.
BG3 didn't contribute to role playing games, it only took away, and that is a shame since it was also a successful game, which proves many gamers doesnt give a shit that the game world is dead and not really a part of the experience, its all about long cut scenes, having voice acting, being able to see your dick and ass etc. it will not make higher standard RPG games, quite the opposite. But sure, if you love cut-scenes (200h or whatever the game had) etc, good for you because im sure you will get those games now.
Lots of coping here, but sure for proving a point, RPG codex...
...a completely unironic hardcore trolling, muh free speech, slurs and other shit place, basically a reverse Resetera. One cesspool equalling the other.
Purely a mental asylum, not a RPG enjoyers paradise my guy. But enjoy what you must.
i am not on RPG codex, but i am aware of the forum and i was on there for a little while, this was like 2 years ago, i didnt like the vibe at all, even less than i like it for any other forum i am on, which is saying a lot since i hate all forums and i question myself why i even visit them (old habbit, i guess)
not sure where you are seeing any kind of coping? if anything more like a defeat, the game is a success, there is no other way of putting it and i absolutely think it will influence future RPGs, in a bad way.
i am old and old school, for me 200h of cut scenes and "perfect" voice acting or being able to see my own ass and foreskin, having cringe jokes, is unimportant in RPG's, even undesirable.
Doesnt matter a ton really, the indie scene still has people who makes old school RPG's which has the heart in the right place. Larian had that too once, when they did Divine Divinity, which was a really cool game.

NO thanks.
What a bunch of nonsense. Both E33 and BG3 are as classical games as they go. That they don't have day/night cycles, or wandering npcs was a good design choice. It's the only way to make games like that with manpower that they had. Simple core gameplay, then they filled the world with content. As opposed to Ubisoft that tend to build their games from the world down, and that later end's up being empty, because they don't have the time to fill it up with content.

What a flarking ignorant statement.
Some people DO appreciate the worlds, the environments, the immersion, MORE than other aspects in games. At the same time, others don't give a fk about that and are all about fun in gameplay or who-knows-what.
Who is right here?!
No-fucking-one. It's subjective! I personally DO find pleasure in simply wandering around some so-called shit games by others, as long as those games have:
• absolutely gorgeous environments
• attention to detail
• immersion via multiple, various perks
I personally detest BG3 also for the reasons vurt specified and I can't understand how this semi-shite won so much praise. Probably because it has accessible, horny-teenage cringe writing and humor and a good gameplay loop.
Oh, yea. and it also rests on the shoulders of the massive success of D:OS2.
I see that reading comprehension is a lost art. Vurt was accusing BG3 and E33 of being made for modern audiences, while complaining that they lack immersive features made for modern audiences. That's the nonsense I am pointing out.
In my opinion, both games are very classic in its core. The only modern aspect that they both share are in-engine cinematics, and quality voice acting. This is proving to be a major draw in gaming lately. Probably also the main detriment from people opposing them. Although they rather throw accusation that are harder to understand.
Could both be better games if they had day/night cycles and more immersive worlds? Maybe. With unlimited budget and manpower, that could be accomplished. As it is, it's better that they didn't go that way. They succeeded, sold very well, and will spawn followers and copycats. This is good for gaming.
On a side note, which games do you like that offer all that you like?
Bg3 wqs full of questionable (woke) crap so i had to use mods to make the female cast look like women, so he's not entirelt wrong. But it was a solid and digestible game otherwise

@fawe4 you're wasting your time tbh, it's always the same iteration of randomly capitalised words, bold text or italic, calling for 'muh true gaming' while the guy hasn't enjoyed a single game in multiple years.
it's very sad and honestly exhausting to the point I've turned off his posts and don't miss a single of those robotic preacher texts anymore. it's not funny nor has it become any sort of ongoing joke that everyone plays along with, everyone is simply sick of it.
See, even Stormwolf, who I usually disagree with on several occasions, can still enjoy games, it's great to see he hasn't become entirely bitter even in a 'imo everything turned bad' state, but I can respect that.
I like crpgs and played many. I personally liked bg 3 (8/10 for me) Didnt think that it was the best but it wasnt the worst either.
People tend to forget that Larian self funded(EA) and published Baldur's Gate 3.
Anyhow even if the hype for the game might be overblown the hate for it is as well.
