Almost done with the DLC, it's mostly great but with some issues. One of them, if I'm understanding correctly, is that the new weapon types are impossible to use on the base game on your first playthrough, right (you only get access to the DLC pretty late in the game too)?
Pretty stupid decision
And I'm guessing if you were to mod them in then the online would stop working or...?

Of course its late content. They cant readily place it early. Either its tuned for early players and enrage just about everyone or it makes people toss the game aside by giving access to noobs. Either way, you wont get anything out of it until you're high level.
With the release of Shadow of the Erdtree, 8 new Weapon categories are added to the already stacked 32 Weapon Categories available in the base game, to a total of 40. This 8 new Weapon categories are: Beast Claws, Hand-to-Hand Arts, Throwing Blades, Backhand Blades, Perfume Bottles, Light Greatswords, Great Katanas, and Thrusting Shields. Learn all about the 8 new weapon types in Shadow of the Erdtree and how to master them!
That's not all, the old weapon categories will receive new weapons, allowing players to have an even bigger arsenal at their disposal to traverse through the dangerous Realm of Shadow, in search of Miquella. Shadow of the Erdtree adds a total of 100 new and exciting Weapons to Elden Ring.
This page is up to date with all this new content. Players will be able to search and find all Shadow of the Erdtree New Weapons here, as well as to learn about their Stats, Scaling, Requirements, Upgrades, Builds that use them, and much more regarding the new weapons added with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC! This comprehensive guide will help players optimize their combat strategies and fully utilize the potential of these new weapons.
Yeah, after then checking all the new categories some of them don't even have a "normal" weapon and the few that have really are DLC exclusive.

They could absolutely place one of each new weapon types in some enemy's loot list in Limgrave/Liurnia, then add another to one of the mid-game areas and then finally have the rest "locked" behind the DLC. Sure you can do NG+ but the progression from NG is not there anymore
As it is it's just another poor decision from Fromsoftware, same as sometimes having all these smithing and somber smithing stones as a reward for exploration in the DLC, when by the time you enter the DLC you'll likely already be able to buy most of them in bulk

Just finished the DLC, last fight was fantastic... well, the 1st phase is, for the 2nd I called upon my mimic tear bro for backup.
DLC was very good, but the emptiness in some parts and some of the, uh, itemization(?) in exploration (as in, items you got for exploring) were just really weak and sometimes brought the experience down for me.
Also, music seemed to be amazing when compared to the base game, from that one the only music I really remember is the radagon fight banger. Here you had wayyy better tracks IMO, stone coffin fissure, the royal rumble near the end fight music, the last boss music and a few other I can't remember, the music really brought it all together in some places.

Went back to finish the base game.
Malenia done in a few hours (still used that assassin as a summon for the 2nd phase, because fuck you with the hp siphoning), godfrey and the last boss were down even faster.
Sure, a couple OP items from the DLC like this
https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Two-Headed+Turtle+Talisman
and this
https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Crimson+Seed+Talisman+1
helped but the rest of my setup was all from the base game. Just shows how my original character had that elon musk build
But honestly, the videos from this guy really helped a lot with choosing the best weapons, arts, talismans, items, etc.
ALSO, having 4 or 5 weapons you use according to the situation with different damage types also helped immensely.
I'm tempted to start a new character (DEX + ARC this time), but maybe it's time for a break for now.

How many of ya'll were able to beat teh DLC without summoning help or using mimics? If this is how FromSoft games are gonna be from now on, I'm out. It was just not fun and I don't remember any memorable areas from the DLC tbh. A lot of emptiness. Horse riding simulator. I wasn't the biggest Elden Ring fan (far prefer Bloodborne and DS3) but even a not-great FromSoft game is better than most games but as far as this expansion goes I don't believe that anymore.

I think I only used the mimic on the 2nd phase of the final boss and on the annoying death blight dancing lion, because those were just too much for me to do solo.
And I agree with some of the emptiness that's sadly necessary if you want to find all the scadutree bits in order to get raped less by every single enemy on the DLC
Only missed the "secret" one near the end, and some final piece of ash that's still out there in the dlc map somewhere but I can't be arsed to check guides in order to find.

Can someone please name possible skill/ammunition/consumable that seems to scale with strength and dex that the user throw object in the air and then fire to a target, very popular in pvp, not int related nor fire or cuase status effects.
