It: Welcome to Derry is an upcoming American horror television series developed by Andy and Barbara Muschietti alongside Jason Fuchs. It is a prequel to the films It (2017) and It Chapter Two (2019), which is based on Stephen King's 1986 novel It. It stars Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, Taylour Paige, James Remar, and Stephen Rider, with Bill Skarsgård reprising his role as It / Pennywise from the films.
The series is scheduled to be released in 2025 on HBO with nine episodes. The shooting of the first season was wrapped and done in August.
I really wish the new It movies hadn't invented the nonsense that It is an alien (there's no mention of that in the book) which is just silly and annoyed me a lot. The closest thing would be an Eldritch horror strongly inspired by HP Lovecraft's cosmic horror mythos reminiscent of the Old Ones.

I hate when movies invent new "canon" in their particular version/universe as opposed to other media like the 1990'ies miniseries and original book). We'll have to wait and see if the tv-series puts emphasis on that or leave it out.
Stephen King's variant:
Quote:
ITs real name and species are also called Deadlights, but few know this, which is why it is referred to as IT.
The Deadlights were writhing, radiant orange lights that were a mysterious but very deadly and terrifying eldritch form of energy that originated from the preternatural dimension known as the Macroverse (also known as the Todash Darkness).
They're a recurring plot element in Stephen King's works including The Dark Tower and IT. It was well known that just a mere glance into the bright lights instantly caused death or permanent insanity.
this shit has been in production since forever it feels, since the old wb regime before the snyder cut, when max first launched, when the ceo said every wb movie should have a max spinoff. the penguin was same too.
