The game is great although it's so scary and oppressive I have to play without headphones and take breaks

The game is fantastic considering Bloober’s previous releases and the fact we all expected them to ruin it, they did well lol. Im almost 20 hours in and I think I’m probably nearing the end. The atmosphere is great, especially the prison which had me on edge with the respawning enemies
I like what they did in terms of narrative. The Remake makes it feel like you play another version of James going through very similar but slightly altered events as if this is a purgatory loop.
everyone keeps asking like wat are they gonna remake next now that this has been a huge success....but no matter wat they decide no other game in this franchise hits as hard as this one does
but i still want them to try and do 1 and 3, dont just do 3 since 3 is a sequel to 1 and both are a complete story
On a related note, in case anyone is interested this guy has recently released an OTS (and first-person as well) camera mod tool for Silent Hill 2 EE,3 and 4: https://github.com/zealottormunds

That looks pretty sick
Any more cool mods for the game? And can you user mod organizer or something?

I haven't tried the tool myself yet but it should work out of the box after the basic fixes are applied (PCGamingWiki has all the goodies). As far as I know there aren't many mods available for SH3 apart from the HD audio/voices from Moddb - though I didn't dig too far into it, same with SH4.
Silent Hill 2 was never about combat. But oh boy did they try to sell the combat in this one.
Konami must have paid a lot of money given that so many journalists were shilling this as a great combat experience. But the combat is mediocre at best.

Yeah, I've read that in some areas (especially later on) it's almost impossible to avoid combat.
I'm moderately enjoying the game but it suffers from the same problem every other horror game with weapons does. I'm not scared of monsters I can just kill. There's zero horror in this for me.

I still prefer these to hide and seek horror games where you have to wait and learn enemy patterns or else repeat from the previous checkpoint
Nearly 2 decades later and still very few games have come close to the super creepy horror of Condemned: Criminal Origins.

the combat is good, simple but smooth, the fact that u can dodge while swinging and cancel that animation is a big plus, wat more do u want? game was never about combat like u said
I’m guessing they stuck to original in terms of the majority of the enemy types but I do wish there were more variation for the popular ones other than just lying figures, bubble head nurses and mannequins.
Given the importance of the monsters in the narrative. It's good they didn't touch the monsters. They did turn a monster you don't end up fighting in the original in a boss fight in the remake.
I finished the game last night on standard difficulty and got the Maria ending, which I believe is 1 of 8 endings and I just read it’s quite tricky to get that one
I’m sure I played the original but I barely remember it and it probably had just the one ending.
Edit: The original game has 6 endings apparently.
Not sure what determines the endings as you don’t make any decisions throughout the game.
In the first playthrough of Silent Hill 2 Remake, players can get three endings i.e. Maria, Leave, or In Water. The rest of the five endings can only be attained after completing the game once and starting another playthrough in the New Game Plus mode.
Despite my playthrough being just over 24 hours, I got a trophy for completing the game in less than 10 hours, which makes no sense lol.
Tempted by New Game Plus on a harder difficulty scale though and with no radio
Around 1 hour in and so far I am not extremely impressed...
Haven't played the original.
It's mostly a biased nostalgia effect for most. It was a cool game back when it came out, especially when you were very young. And by extension this must good. A bias confirmation. I agree this game, standing alone, is not impressive at all
