I've played for a couple hours now and only died once but haven't seen any bosses yet, so still not sure about the difficulty.

How's the performance for you guys? Same as the base game? I've been reading about people having lots of stutters and frame drops in the DLC but the base game ran fine for them.

Seems the same to me, some stutters here and there, which I also had in base game.

E: never mind, the Castle Ensis area kinda tanked my framerate for some reason Laughing Sad

Didn't preorder this one, despite the huge appreciation I have for ER. Aaand I still have to finish main game...

But... DLC is reviewed as MIXED on Steam now. Neutral

One of the negative reviews:
_

"
The Good:

- Jawdropping, beautiful world. Blows anything in base game out of the water.
- "Legacy Dungeons" are far better than anything in base game. Feels very Souls design, and that's very good.
- Largely, non-boss enemy design is refreshing.
- New weapon types are super refreshing, too.

The Bad:

- Recycled bosses. Get ready for 5 more copy-pasted giant dragons in the first couple hours, and major bosses have straight up recycles from base game.
- Terrible camera. Camera Bosses were such a problem in base game I'm shocked that it's still a problem in DLC. It's a DLC full of Tree Spirits/Mohg Phase 2 where your camera is having a seizure and clipping into another dimension.
- Terrible collision hitboxes. It is a diceroll if you are about to get ragdolled across the arena when 1 pixel of a bosses epileptic asscheek brushes against you, and even at 60 Vig it'll take out 60% of your health. Amplified worse by the aforementioned terrible camera issues.

There are more personal taste things of course - like amping up the Fortissax/Placidusax-esque ground lightning spam by 200% and doubling down on endless boss chain stuff - but I know there's reasons many like those too, and that's just down to taste. Which I can respect. But those 3 things I think are just unacceptable and tarnish (heh) an otherwise nice DLC.

Just played a little of this. So here are my first impressions for those who didnt or are on the fence.

In this dlc you need to collect 2 different type of items that strengthen you (1st type) and your npc summon (2nd type).
You dish out more damage and can take more damage permanently if you use that item on a bonfire.

So your character is basically nerfed. Your endgame character gets basically 2-3 shotted even by some normal monsters.

Enemies have loads of hp/you do less damage.
New items/equipment dont feel specially since they dont make a difference.(Better armor?why use it if you ll get kille d by the same amounts of hits etc)
Some enemies have better poise than malenia.
Horse dies too easily.

Some hours in this all might change but i guess there is a reason why the game is on 68 % now and was on 98% yesterday. (Post hype clarity i guess)

Edit:
Didnt have microstuttering yesterday with my old 3060 12gb. Got a 4070 super today and still dont ahve microstutters both on max settings.

A conclusion after reading (player) feed-back:

There ARE some problems with scaling, performance, new mechanics.

I believe that these will probably be almost all fixed in the 10th DLC patch, as per ER FS tradition...

I beat the annoying three phase boss I spoke about earlier. Terrible fight for a pure melee build, IMO.

Its weak point is hard to target and every other attack is designed to keep you away from melee distance. I had to use a lot of fire to kill it.

If this were a two phase I'd say 'whatever', but three phases is too much for this specific boss. I can't believe the same team designed this fight. Laughing

Most relevant boss fights are terrible for melee. Maybe From Software should focus on the things that made Dark Souls so great, challenging but fair. Instead, they made a DLC for the insecure crowd who keeps yelling "get gut". They added an ass scaling system that "journalists" don't call out because they want to be perceived as "gut" players.

So far I've beaten 4 remembrance bosses and 10 regular ones, I'm still enjoying myself but some of FROM's design decisions are already getting on my nerves.

Making so many enemies damage sponges with more poise than a lot of bosses, that hit ridiculously hard even at +10 Scadutree level, with damage negating talismans and buffs, isn't something I'm a fan of.

Just finished shadows of the erdtree. It was good, but not as good as the main game by far. Some interesting locations, but it was mostly very generic. It was filled with boring human bosses. A few bosses were actually fun, but only a few.

Found a cool madness themed area with a creepy encounter. Really liking the vibe there.

I wonder if they made Frenzy better in PVE with this expansion. In Convergence it absolutely slaps.

Edit: There's a cool boss in this area. Very Happy

Is there seriously no way to compare items when you purchase?

People complain about all kinds of retarded shit (that i don't give a shit about mostly) but QoL stuff like this, and no one says a word? In a game that has been patched so many times now and it's still not in, not fixed with the DLC either? I mean i guess i can always grab the mobile and take a photo of the stats buuuut...

I was just wondering about UWS... I didn't have a UWS monitor back for the initial relase (and haven't played yet), but do now. But Flawless Ultrawidescreen doesn't work somehow. It has an entry for Elden Ring, but it just doesn't find the process... Maybe something to do with the DLC? FROM seem to also have changed Easy-Anti-Cheat methods...

I tried that, and I have other mods running, for example the pause mod. But for whatever reason, flawless widescreen does not recognize the running threat of Elden Ring. And I am using the RUNE version, so I play offline anyways Wink

After reaching the end I can say that I liked it but I'm not in love with it.

Its overreliance on damage sponges with ridiculous poise that deal insane damage with combos that go on and on isn't my thing, but overall it was a fun journey with some of the coolest designs they've ever done.

Now I need to do a base game playthrough as a Kung-Fu monk. Very Happy

So after finishing it, i can say that i really enjoyed it. It has problems like the upgrade system, the game really wants you to follow a certain path to get stronger but map design kinda fails in that regard and you can end up in super "high level" areas and get giga blasted, after i got some upgrades game felt more or less like base game.
Another bad part was some bosses had waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much HP and were kinda annoying to fight but most of them were fine. I didnt felt like game was too hard after i got some upgrades still very challenging ofc but nothing too ridiculous.
Build was rivers of blood with a great shield (started at 180, ended up at 214 NG0 aka no new game plus), cant talk about other builds
The good was everything else, the map visuals and design (yes ik i said map design failed to guide you in the right direction but everything else was top notch) , i enjoyed all the new legacy dungeons, interesting art direction all around, pretty to look at and all that, some of the new weapons are super fun to play. Definitely my fav souls game to date
No performance issues with 3080ti 2k 60 fps lock

ill rate it cookbook/10

out of sig inspiration for the moment Okay

I am lvl 217 in main game (no '+' yet). Thinking of doing a NG+ before starting DLC.

"But... why?", you ask?!

So that this time I understand what the fuck this game's story and characters are all about... Laughing
