Heh, funny this word... casual.

Casual gamers, casual voters, casual employees, casual citizens. Smile

They're everywhere and their mark is on the whole spectrum. We might be pissed at our gaming industry / universe being fucked up by their presence, but... all around us, this... 'casual' status (some might call it "ignorance") hits us even harder in RL.

With the wide-spreading of the gaming industry it was only a matter of time to see products adjusted mainly for masses and not for dedicated / passionate / hardcore gamers. The lowest denominator will always have a word to say...

whether that is a significant statistic is pretty meaningless

How is this meaningless if it is significant or not? The whole meaning is revolves around the fact how big is the effect specific event will have on their sales. I understand you are trying to reiterate Interactive's point that we can't do any judging here because we cant possibly know how many people DID not buy game because hey were boycotting it and how many DIDNT buy/refund it because it was a bad game, but as I mentioned already before - this is irrelevant because we never had a confirmed case when specific game that was "le widely" boycotted - failed hard.

its meaningless because we don't have enough information to make much discussion out of it. the internet is horribly unpredictable at times. the number itself is meaningful, but all we can do is talk conjecture pointlessly. boycotts don't cause a game to fail, they cause it lose profit and damage longterm reputation.

i mean to say that the numbers are significant and it will cost them profit. how much, only the internet knows. 14 thousand people upvoted just one random article on reddit about the ooblets devs. say a third of those people actually talk to someone else. maybe 1 in 1000 of those run a gaming group. even i'm here posting about this garbage and i don't give a fuck about ooblets either way Laughing

most of these people probably won't purchase the game either way, but they'll put others off of it by attaching a stink to it. there's ton of other shit to play these days - the event will reduce impulse purchases of ooblets in my opinion. significant? who knows. i would say it's significant even if it was just 1 person, because they are going to be losing money over a whole lot of nothing.

the game could never 'fail' the moment epic purchased it, but at the same time it may not reach the heights it could have, particularly now it has some PR mess and social activity around.
idiots will always float whatever is in the market, but i don't think this event is not significant, as i said earlier if nothing else this debacle could easily ruin the devs in real life regardless of how much money the game makes and that alone makes it an event.

satisfactory was largely 'successful' because epic has fuck all on their store and a lot of bored fortnite players attached to it, as well as a great deal of money to spend on advertising and promoting EGS - they don't seem to care whether it actually makes money or not right now, they just want to push into steams market. all outward appearances point to it being hugely successful.
however once their store reaches saturation point like steam i doubt some small event will be so easily ignored.

this is such a loaded word, because everyone is a casual in some way. no one has enough time to be informed about every little thing the great internet gets upset about.
it's unfortunate that predatory market practices are king and will continue to dictate everything.

that said, i'm amazed there is finally some resistance to micro transactions. only took a decade for these clueless fucks to catch up.

Doesn't have to be loaded in our certain context / discussion. We narrow the sense to make it simple / define a specific idea:

So it's sense - in this case - is negative. As it is used in a situation where the 'casual' is defined as a person that lacks... awareness (for the lack of a more elegant word). Therefore it is unable to make decisions that affect itself and it's fellows in a positive way.
