Think there was an effect of novelty back then, the game managed to make a number of boxes tick when not so many other games would have, but now, with the abundance of arguably better indie games coming out left and right, it's nothing special any more.
That and Trine 3 was noticeably poorer than the rest of the series, which didn't help.
