There was never a 'root' mechanic so ground-breaking that could be treated as inspiration or model for other / next games and be at the core of a successful product.*
*perhaps except parkour, which is dead since AC Origins
It was always THE WHOLE PACKAGE(of Jade) that made the first AC game(s) successful:
• a different style of game, inspired by Prince of Persia (parkour)
• exotic and famous landmarks (Jerusalem, Acre, Roma, Paris)
• lore and history (grounded in reality)
• secret and mysterious organizations
• memorable characters
• assassinations
• stelt
I, on the other hand, am more than happy with the video. No XP unlocks, but everything gets unlocked through the story, outfits are back, dyes are back
Min 5:27 - We hope youll be as excited as we are ...Thats not gonna be hard friend, none of them looks truly excited, they should have made the video 1 day before the summer vacation for a realistic emotional effect.
Especially the narrative director, that woman must be the soul of the party
Bored developers make boring games, thats a fact.
Nevertheless this looks the most interesting AC since AC Origins.
AC games are FIFAs at this point. They just sell, somehow.
I wouldn't say that. The reason they changed the series with Origins is because the sales went down the shitter starting with unity. AC 3 and Black Flag sold around 13-14 million copies at the time of reporting. By the time Syndicate released it sold 4 million.
Contrary to a few voices you see online wanting the "return" to classic formula, that classic formula was shit from the very first game and we were all mocking the series for years before Origins. Auto one button press to win combat system where enemies take turns to attack before you press the win button when the game prompts you to. "Stealth" meaning sit down on a bench or go into a group of 4 to become invisible. Auto crouch in contextual situations. Auto parkour with holding space down. Return to the game zone alert as soon as you steered just a little bit from the red zone showed on a minimap. The animus sequences. The tail missions that every soul in the universe loathed and they were fucking endless.
The series was complete horseshit from day 1 and if people didnt like Ezio and wanted to see where it went, i doubt we would be talking about these games today.
It was only with Oddisey and Valhalla that they nailed something that people like. Valhalla is their best selling game, made them over a billion $
Well I thought Ass Creed Origins was worse than Ass Creed Syndicate. I think the sales numbers are not directly in link with the game quality and more like as you said people were bored of the same formula.
But instead of having a break, they HAD to do another Ass Creed (Origins) and people purchased it cuz they were curious about the super eagle you can summon, and the XP system that makes you farm like death
Now people are bored of this new formula, so they want another change : let's go back to the old formula!
Assassin’s Creed Mirage will now be released on October 5th, which is a week ahead of its original October 12th release date, Ubisoft announced on Monday. The game has also gone gold, indicating that it’s locked for release.
nah, for once im really looking forward to this one, its been a long time since i was excited about a new ac game, even though i know will probably be average but who knows
its disappointing nothing has happened graphically since 2017. You'd also think a smaller scale game could probably look better and just use more advanced graphics than e.g Origins which is open world, but no.
also, with all the talk about multi-culturalism from Ubi, why not have the game in Arabic with english subs? not even the more woke companies like this one seems to dare doing something like that. but of course, they're all fake and they don't really give a shit about other cultures.
Personally i think it could add to some games because it's a big part of how we perceive something as genuine (or why not just exotic and interesting or immserive).

You have the option to do that, and from what I've read it's actually the default.

cuz this is not a major release but a sideline, smaller studio, still origins used as baseline etc, the next big one is project red or something

That's good then, i did watch all the videos here and the first one starts with English voice with that raspy voiced woman from The Expanse (and many other movies and games) so i was thinking they have probably spent the budget on english vocies and it's what they're going with.
With AI the potential for great and unique voices and in unlimited languages is now possible. But i doubt they'll be using it for games because its so controversial. Maybe in 5 or so years when people have calmed the fuck down about it
