The Outlaw Josey Wales: 7.5/10. Start was a bit out of place with the rest of the movie being more stretched out, but good one.
Black Hawk Down: 8.5/10. Great. Was on my disk for 10+ years, forgot about it, now downloaded the 4K release and watched it. This was pretty much solid from start to end. Some really, really well filmed helicopter scenes.

Yep, rewatched it fairly recently cause my girlfriend had not seen it before. 4k, HDR(ish) on a big OLED with proper audio - that's definitely a change since the last time I saw it Very Happy
Never had the opportunity to see it at the cinema so that's at least something.

10 Cloverfield Lane

6/10

Movie was about to be a 8/10 'masterpiece' but the ending was rushed and totally unecessary. The story would probably do much better in a TV show format then in a 2-hour movie.

Hellraiser (2022) - 2/10

A very 2022 movie.

In other words...woke crap. Female Pinhead ?

I liked it. It was more a 5.5/10.

Same 5/10 from me. Me and wife watched it. Was very Hellraiser visually and on the mark for its usual "torture victims turned calm and emotionless sadists are spooky' vibe. But the story was meh, and dragged out felt like the whole story should have been a subscene of a movie, not a whole movie itself.
And I know some will roll eyes and go "of course you didn't" for this part, But the female/androgynously made Pinhead didnt bother me or smell of the concept of 'female all the main characters'. If they made it 10+ years ago, would have just thought: This new pinhead is a bit flat character wise. And not: This new female pinhead is a bit flat character wise.

Summary: OK, but not great. If you like Hellraiser visuals worth a free watch. Story feels like should be one of multiple ongoing subscenes of a movie, not a whole movie on its own.

The Stranger - 7,5/10

An interesting experience with its thick, eerie and mildly unsettling atmosphere that supports the slow-paced story. Sean Harris' performance is absolutely great, as well Joel Edgerton's. I wasn't familiar at all with the real case so it felt suspenseful, and it helps that there's no glamorization of the subject matter.

+1
I tried to picture many scenarios in my head at the beginning of the movie but I wasn't quite expecting it to take that turn. It's tense too, with some solid acting and hectic camera work (I can't add anything else, really). Thanks Yuri for mentioning it, otherwise this flick would have never caught my attention.

Barbarian. Wow, started out like a perfect 10/10, so good, really kept me on the edge of my seat. But when we get into the actual story its a bit too dumb / comic book-like unfortunately. The performances were good. 7/10, worth a watch.

Promising Young Woman 8/10

Better than what I've expected. Very well written and suprisingly good performance by Carey Mulligan. One of those movies you can easly remeber even years after watching it.

Thunderball: 9/10. A great movie and soundtrack. 1080p already looked great for a near 60 year old movie, but the 4K version looked even better. I hope that when the inevitable official UHD blurays are released they spent some time (but likely won't) on resyncing the audio properly as some of it is so out of sync. And I wouldn't mind they made some changes to the video where they change back the 500% speed ups to make everything look like it goes at 20000 KM/H, but that'll probably never happen Smile

Some more 007s:
Goldfinger: 9/10. Great movie. Would rate it just below Thunderball, but really it's almost the same.
From Russia With Love: 8.5/10. Bit odd pacing here and there, which reduced the score by 0.5.
The Spy Who Loved Me: 8/10. A bit cheesy, but probably the best Moore movie (not my favorite though, which is Moonraker).
The Living Daylights: 9/10. The soundtrack is a masterpiece, John Barry ended with a bang here The movie itself has all the 007 ingredients and blended it well together.
Licence to Kill: 9.5/10. Soundtrack could've been better, but the movie is great. A worthy (lunatic) opponent.

Some others:
Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special: 4/10. This felt like 40 mins of (rather useless) post credits.
Black Adam: 6/10. Really liked Brosnan's character, he made the movie watchable with his charm. Hawkman was OK too. The rest of the movie wasn't that good unfortunately, or made any sense.

You Only Live Twice: 7/10. Probably worst Connery 007 movie. The becoming Japanse part could've been cut completely and would make the movie much better as it added nothing to the story. Special effects, even for this era, were much worse than the older movies. But it has some good parts too, and then there's the lovely Toyota 2000GT Very Happy

How this got so much hype and raving reviews - I don't know. I found it retarded and boring with constant jump scare bait.

Bones and All (2022) : 2.5/10
Timothee Chalalamet as Timothee Chalalamet. Only this time the leads eat other people. Didn't see the romance in any of it and the entire thing was so forced and contrived.

The Banshees of Inisherin (2022) : 4/10
Great atmosphere but wtf was the writer smoking when he wrote the story. Started strong but veered into stupid territory too soon Laughing

The Banshees of Inisherin - Nice, but not very nice/10

My expectations were too high, which is always a capital sin and a worse offence than self-harm. Still, it was justified being the McDonagh/Gleeson/Farrel reunion and all. The movie definitely shines in terms of actual acting chops, and its surreal tone with the hilariously bizarre dialogues (a trademark) is both charming and bittersweet. I didn't find it anywhere near as brilliant as the good ol' In Bruges but I enjoyed it, especially in the current sea of dullness that constantly makes us roll back and we're all fecking, so.

Emily the Criminal - 5,5/10

Rather clichè-ish and ultimately predictable, but Plaza is the glue that holds everything together, making the movie work. Kind of.

Men - ( ಠ( ಠ ͜ʖ( ಠ ͜ʖಠ) /10

Now that's a wacky one, Garland mate, what the hell. Officially it's listed as horror but that really doesn't do the movie justice because..let's face it, it's a dark comedy. It has to be Very Happy Laughing
Jessie Buckley and Rory Kinnear are both good though (not a surprise) and the direction is competent. There is probably some gnarled humanistic symbolism behind the whole thing or an abstruse elaborate critique of modern society, or perhaps it's just a man who likes getting off in an unconventional way.

Glass Onion - 5/10

I enjoyed the first Sherlock Blanc and was even prepared to face an additional layer of mundanity, but alas, both the tone and the actual writing pushed past my threshold thus causing the movie to fall apart like a sad trombone made of breakaway glass.

Happiness (1998) - 8/10

Grotesque and hilarious almost in equal measure, starring a bunch of people giving into their extra-dark impulses in unexpected ways. The acting is solid and the pseudo-comedic style makes the interactions feel even more awkward than they are. A pleasant surprise that I probably won't watch ever again

Holy shit, this old movie and we (well she) saw it recently too. My wife watched it about a month ago out of nothing else she wanted to watch on netflix and came up as recommended since she likes horror films.

She had about the same opinion I think. She was watching it and I came in about an hour later and she was watching something else. Asked her "that was a short movie" and she replied that it started getting weird and plot was swerving all over the place after a while, and lost her interest. Best way to sum up what she said (as I don't remember exactly): Its like Stephen King tried to write a horror novel as alzheimer's set in 1/2 way through.

Ohh but that was the point. You as a viewer needed to question what was real and what wasn't also. That bit was alright for me. But it was weird in places and the ending just mehh....
