does anyone believes that we would ever see the silmarillion on the screen?
this is for sure the most colossal and epical story told by tolkien, it's much more deeper and bigger than the famous Lord of the Rings, and it sure would be another great masterpiece of cinema if someone ever decided to make it.
most people wanted to see the Hobbit on film, but IMO the Hobbit is a much lesser story than the Lord of the Rings, and it shows many few things about Tolkien World.
for those of you who read the Silmarillion, can you imagine the power of the attack on the Undying Lands, and the fall of Numenor, those scenes would be so powerfull that the entire Lord of the Rings triology would seem like childs play in comparisson.
the only problem would be the lenght of the movie, the Silmarillion is a far more long story than the Lord of the Rings and in order to make a thrustfull and powerfull movie without losing some of the most important key elements of the history, the movie would need to have more than 12 hours (like the extended editions of LOTR), it will obviously have to be a triology or a quadrology, but every cinema producer in the world knows that LOTR was one of the most sucessefull movies of all time.
making the Silmarillion would be a very complex work, and I understand that some producers may fear grasping this masterpiece into cinema, but I also know that if someone would make it with the same love and courage that Peter Jackson had for LOTR, it would certainly be the biggest cinema masterpiece of all times, many people that haven't read the Simallirion might not understand this, but all those who read it know that despite of what is often said, the Silmarillion is far better than the Lord of the Rings.
and I trully hope that some producer in the world will have the same vision that Peter Jackson had when he decided to make LOTR.

I can only agree with you on so many points Ronhrin. But i think the Silmarillion is way to big to be made into a movie, it consists of many many smaller stories build into many bigger storie and those into the whole book.
But if you have read it, and if you like the Lord of the Rings world it is definatly a must read!
As for the cinema of the Hobbit, i think it would be really great since the Hobbit as a book is much better then Lord of the Rings.

I've read the Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit, and the Silmarillion in that exact same order, IMO the Hobbit was the less intersting of the three.
I've read it all before the LOTR movies came out into cinema.
I've cried many times when I was reading LOTR and the Silmarillion, and I deeply love those books.
when I went to the cinema to watch LOTR, I tought it was impossible to create the atmosphere of the books into a movie, but I was wrong, when I was watching the amazing ROTK, I was so deeply moved and amazed that I felt exactly the same feelings that I had when reading the book.
what I'm saying is this, if there was someone that loved LOTR so much that was able to made such a colossal movie triology capable of showing to everyone who didn't read LOTR the power of that history.
I honestly think that there should be someone out there that could do the same for Silmarillion.
this movie has to be made by someone who deeply loves and felt the history, and it sure will be a extremely difficult work to do.
but everytime I visualize the Silmarillion in my head, I cannot stop thinking the colossal and powerfull and amazing movie that could be made.

The Silmarillion is just soo big and soo much happens in it. I mean the whole Lord of the Rings tale about Frodo is only a couple of pages

the Silmarillion is composed by 5 main storys.
Ainulindale, Valaquenta, Quenta Silmarillion, AkallabĂȘth and Of the Rings of Power and the Third Age.
we could have a movie of two for each main chapter, each movie would have some 4 hours of screenplay.
I'm aware that it would mean a total of between 5 and 10 movies of 4 hours each, I know what that means, as I've said, a lot of work, but it would be the most amazing thing EVER on cinema.

It wouldn't work at all. Half the film would be just giant balls of light, or CGI monstrosities having an argument.

there were people that said the exactly same thing about Lord of the Rings movies, and it actually worked and turned out to be the colossal epic we all saw.
cinema is always evolving and I honestly believe that this movies would work if someone made them with the same passion that Peter Jackson had.

Making a movie out of the Silmarillion would be pretty hard, as it's really got more information stuck into it than the entire trilogy itself.
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

I don't think it's possible to make a movie out of it,but series are possible.
But since most series have shitty quality and dull as hell,I'd love to see it as first CG series with really great graphics like in Final fantasy 7 advent children.
