Nodrim wrote: | Well, a lot of the time these reviewers play these games on console. Sometimes, I see the likes of ACG playing PC games with a controller as well while providing no information about the status of PC base peripherals functionality in those games.
The focus of these reviews is language, meaning they try to captivate the audience and not necessarily focus on a balanced overview of the product unless it's truly necessary (this is the case of insanely broken games).
Also, many youtube reviewers did adhere to the scoring "standards" of mainstream media. You'd rarely see a high budget game with a score below 8.
But the consumer bears a lot of the fault for being complacent with nicely said words that bolster products and sales rather than looking for a detailed analysis. Others can't stand having the games they love or are hyped about being put down which is hilarious if you think about it (valuing oneself based on the products you enjoy is not the greatest outlook).
I could go on, but I'm sure you know most of these things. I actually spend some time trying to get an insight on this matter and as a result, I gave up writing reviews altogether. So, look at the bright side, no more spamming from me! |
In short, these so-called 'reviewers' have become influencers. There's no more an objective, fact-focused speech here. It's all a 'I don't want to upset anyone with what I'm saying'...
A. They don't want to upset developers / publishers that pump funds, review codes (aka still money).
B. They don't want to upset consumers (aka viewers) by allowing critique speech and encouraging antagonistic views or comments, which can lead to the necessity of bringing forward those objective facts that they initially avoided.
And yes, the consumer is the key here. But when a masterfully crafted 'language', that dissimulates the truth, is fed on a daily basis, the weak mind will start to listen to it and slowly consider it normal. So what happens is: ... that consumer will NOT start 'looking' (as you put it) for more / truth / details, because he DOES NOT KNOW that there is more than that.
[In parenthesis: Just like people that don't understand the need of an FOV slider, that a smaller group of people need (it's a matter of how much the brain can process at a time + other objective, scientific explanations)].
Unfortunately ~80% of the population(s) are not prepared to think for themselves. So that honey-coated, sugary speech is capturing the ignorant minds. More so, the ignorant mind becomes an ally that perpetuate and defend those ideas.
And outside this... matrix, there are some people that are not afraid to claim that they - once in a while - took the red pill. OR... simply they care more about people / principles / work / being professional instead of money.
Don't give up on writing reviews, also! I might 'conjure' you up for a project that the market (or... should I say better... the people) so, so desperately needs.

Finished it yesterday after a bit over 20h. Enjoyed it, but it wasn't great by any means.
The graphics were nice, but I was a bit iffy about the art style - felt a bit goofy. Similar in style to Dishoroned, but there the steampunk aestethic felt more fitting than retro futuristic 60's.
The voice acting was really good - the guy playing Colt did a great job, and some of the visionaries sell their roles completely.
The levels were hit and miss. I liked the industrial parts and interiors but the environment felt strange, when it came to sightlines which in turn impacted the AI with their inconsistent cones of vision.
The gamplay loop itself was ok, but the backtracking started to feel a bit tiring. Ultimately, it was very linear, despite making a good impression of non-linearity.
Solid game, but Dishonored and Prey were a lot better. 7.5/10

Well, if the gameplay is really close to Dishonored, and assuming this sold much better than those (which IIRC, sadly, sold poorly) then maybe it's just peeps getting exposed to that gameplay style for the first time and going "ZOMG teh innovation "

to be fair as far as i understand cracking denuvo (and i might be completely wrong) is a very tedious task of going through and removing myriads of triggers one by one manually
whereas the incentive to crack a game/copy protection "in the old days" stemmed from the idea of finding a security flaw i.e. getting the foot in the door finding patterns and and then letting the crackle do its magic to circumvent said protective measures
please correct me if i am wrong
oh and apart from that they probably just bought a couple of scene heads ("if you cant fight them...")

Half-arsed crack anyways. DLC don't work.
