Nightdive Studios has trademarked Powerslave/Exhumed, hinting at a possible remaster
Quote:
Back in May 2015, we informed you about a project that aimed to re-create the console versions of Powerslave using a custom engine built from the ground up, Powerslave EX. Created by Kaiser, this new free Powerslave game was meant to be a freeware game, however it was shut down due to legal/copyright issues.
All is not lost, though, it appears that a new remaster for this classic game may be under its way. Nightdive Studios has just trademarked both Exhumed and Powerslave, hinting at a possible remaster, though we are not certain whether it will be similar to Powerslave EX.
The whole purpose of Powerslave EX was so users could enjoy the console versions of this game on the PC at high-definition resolution along with optional rendering features such as FXAA and bloom. In addition, user mods and custom levels can also be achieved, keeping the spirit of this game alive.
Happened once already but the deal wasn't finalized ("Whoops") when the build was leaked though it got taken down after a little while, nice to see that taken care of now from the looks of things and it getting a official release.

Almost. Powerslave 1997 aka PlayStation version. Which was a completely different game than the 1996 PC version and much more interesting.

For many people, yeah. The PSX version is like a remix of the Saturn version and it got a little simplified in the process (with the benefit of it running significantly smoother). But the PSX version is probably the better known version between the 2, and at least the earliest iteration of this source port was based on the PSX version.

Tried it for a few minutes and... Is it me or the game starts different than the original?..
Also it has, for me, a Spanish dub !!...Shame that there are no subs coz the voice i heard was very low
Sure the other languages will have a doubt, but it's rare to see a different beginning than the original and the dub adding
Still, will give it a better try, since i had goosebumps playing this one, specially with the UNDERWATER LEVELS (Atleast the gameplay is now better with KB+M)

Finished the remastered version from GOG in 4h4min, using a guide ONCE to know where to go IN THE HUB MAP at a certain point, along where to find one of the 8 transmitters for the true ending (It's "Beep....Beeep" sound isn't heard since it's farther away than normal behind a secret wall)
I've been told that the version mentioned a couple of posts above of this one that i used to play was the MS-DOS version, with the horrible controls back then (Look with A and D without strafe, CTRL to shoot, etc) and being "a different build".
HOWEVER, this port is from the CONSOLE VERSION (Saturn / PSX), aka THE GOOD ONE
THE GOOD:
-Most of the times runs at 60FPS without issues. VERY RARE to drop , even if it's an ol' game being ported
-A VERY clean remaster, minus the enemies and objects with the obvious "They all look like laying down on the ground when seen from above!" ...I mean, pixelated, but better looking than before
-A better version than the MS-DOS one, with backtracking to get the 8 transmitter items to get the true ending
-CHECKPOINT SYSTEM !!!, even re-doing a checkpoint once ya touch another one keeps the progress
-Grenades, when having multiple health bars, can help a ton on skipping sections to end a level faster, specially the last 2 dungeons before the final boss.
THE BAD:
-Some checkpoints are pretty far away
-Like the original, the picked up AMMO (Blue Spheres) is not spread to all the weapons except the one that's currently active. Ammo management game ..
-No shoot-o-meter for the grenades' throwing distance.
-UNDERWATER LEVELS WITH THE FUCKING PIRANHAS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-They changed the true ending's "last page" in comparison to the original (A "full body (original) VS a head view (Remaster)". And still the video cutscenes (OP and EDs) were in 4:3 and not re-done
-The bosses are a JOKE of how easy they are... Just aim correctly and you're done, and stay away from em...
-Sometimes it's hard to remember where ya must go due to the lack of info the pharaoh tells ya to do, forcing ya to replay a whole level
TIP: If ya completed a level but forgot it's transmitter, you can simply go pick it up and go back to the transport camel ya started with to save the progress instead of doooooooooing the whole thing again
It's a nice port to kill a bit of time, with it's fucking jumpscares, specially UNDERWATER LEVELS, but it could've been better, like a manual save function etc
7/10 (For being old to new. Pretty short but fair lenght for what it's worth but keeping the ammo system a fuck up)
