I installed COP + some mods after completing Metro Exodus, and while I would love to play it, the stutter cannot be tamed
Even in that clip you can see the stuttery jank bleeding through
It's also 10 years old now. That went fast
How did it age for you?
Tried COP (vanilla) some weeks ago but it felt so... out... dated?
What did you feel was dated? The engine?
The game remains the best representation of an open fps and its gameplay is richer and more detailed than nearly everything in existence. Stalker isnt dated. It makes games coming out tomorrow feel primitive and backwards. Just like Gothic 2 does to 3d rpgs
Am I missing something here? This is... weapons related. Nothing on visuals:
Code:
Arsenal Overhaul is a full weapons conversion for S.T.A.L.K.E.R Call of Pripyat 1.6.02. It features over a 100 new weapons, 28 new ammunition types and 6 new suits. All vanilla weapon models have been replaced with high quality versions. All weapon sounds have been replaced with new original sounds and more variation in stalker NPC's.
I do know about COP Complete, though. But I was referring to the vanilla game. I never was too keen on spoiling the out-of-the-box default STALKER experiences.
Atmosfear + Absolute Nature 4 is indeed a solid choice when it comes to enhancing the (already fantastic ) atmosphere without touching the base mechanics, Call of Pripyat is a polished experience as far as Stalker goes.
The assets, models, and animations in general show the obvious effects of time, but when it comes to the 100% PC-centric gameplay (Rest in P̶e̶a̶c̶e Couches) with its responsive unfiltered movements/freedom, interface and superb sense of intimidating immersion, there's nothing that can rival the Stalker series for me. It truly qualifies as timeless in my personal Echo detector.
Edit:
Then when you're done with vanilla and want to feel completely miserable in the best sadomasochistic way, the glorious Misery 2.2 awaits you
I was playing the old version and I just upgraded to it, so far so good. It's basically Anomaly with hundreds of mods on top. It's very challenging. You can configure a lot with the mod config menu and it runs with Mod Organizer 2.
If you hate yourself, I highly recommend giving it a try!
Has anybody tried the game with the 64-bit OpenXRay engine which purports to improve stability and performance as well as fixing some bugs that the standard engine had?
EDIT: nvm, it seems like the engine can be buggy, at least for some people.
A new release candidate (RC1) was released ~1 month ago and is the first update in a year. Changelog will be available with the final release. I'll check it out and report my experience, both vanilla and with mods.
EDIT2: nope, it crashes when I try to start a new game. this is buggered as heck. back to 32-bit exe
Meanwhile, I found a really cool thing: you can redeem some Steam games on GOG.com by using the CD-Key, thus getting a guaranteed DRM-free version on GOG. 😁😁😁

Running it myself right now, although compared to Anomaly base it looks... I dunno. Really drab?
