The Matrix Resurrections
5/10
Damnit, I wanted it to be so good. I've watched a 6 minute recap of the trilogy so my wife was up to date again, as we watched the three films a couple of years ago. After the recap I was 'Ah, I enjoyed these movies so much' and then this piece of turd came. They tried, and sometimes I felt 'OK, now it's coming!' but then nothing. It feels empty and the last 20 minutes are the worst.

The Matrix - 8/10
The Matrix Reloaded - 5,5/10
The Matrix Revolutions - 4,5/10

And finally, after the (admittedly rather troubled) rewatch it was Resurrections' time to s̶h̶i̶n̶e give me the coup de grace. Kidding aside, there isn't much to say that hasn't been said already, it went about as expected. The unnecessary and quite desperate attempt to provide the rebootinuation of a franchise that had very little left in the tank and that couldn't really add anything worthwhile besides additional doses of rotten berries, extra-wonky plot devices, awkward editing, slow-mo illusive men animated with After Effects and random Sense8 guest stars.

Although the original movie definitely does come with its share of nonsense and typical 90s cheese with an extra layer of edginess, it still feels like a slick and well-rounded product that never misses a beat in terms of pacing, directing and overall consistency - something that for me the two direct sequels sadly have always failed to replicate. Resurrections is like the special child living in its own Matrixverse, it could have been created by a procedurally generated script with random people using deepfakes and the final result would have remained largely the same. A breathtaking(tm) quality when one thinks about it! /10

Don't look up - 6.5/10
A flawed movie mostly due to how it was edited but overall I enjoyed it. Overall a movie about the state of human stupidity.

Encounter - 7.5/10
Pretty good scifi drama, it has some issues with the script but is well acted and executed.

Don't Look Up - 7/10

I wasn't expecting to have a relatively good time with this movie, but here we are. Structured almost like The Onion in film form, it's a parody of modern society à la Idiocracy meets Melancholia: 'Murica Edition and despite some hiccups, it works. The (over)acting is fitting and although there are aspects that come off as too plainly caricatural, in such a context they don't really feel out of place. After all, this is just the extremization but not really of our typical ape-like behaviour when dealing with the swifter and more direct version of our current apocalypses. *preorders the stasis pod #376 + anti-dino suit*

in a nutshell spot on, although i didn't find the humour to be that good. Also no need for the Allstate cast or 2.5 hours or something.

I'd give it 5-6/10

Saw maybe ~10 minutes of that and gave up. What "komedy!11! LOL" I saw fell flat on its face and really put me off immediately, went back to fixing shit to sell in SDALGER Anomaly which was 100x more satisfying xD

Shows like Office and Parks & Rec can only work if you're okay with that documentary style humour. If you don't like it then it falls flat like it did for me. In this case I recommend Arrested Development and Community.

1 and 2 are still amazing.

Last Night in Soho - 5/10

Weakest movie from Wright for me. Clear inspirations from Giallo (Suspiria especially) and 60s british horrors for better or worse. As was written before the second part fall flat.

Like for real, this director was laughing AT us for sticking through this .... in our faces that we were this stupid watching all 2 hours of his shit . How leo got conned into this flick, no clue , compared to django this was an abomination of a role and charatcer, he usualy picks winners and carries, but here, zero chance

Don't look up - 7/10, it was pretty darn funny and entertaining, Idiocracy with an hint of Armageddon and the ending was pretty satisfying ! Not all that unrealistic at all to me Very Happy A bit telegraphed for sure but it's pretty presumptuous to believe we wouldn't behave in a very cliché manner either Razz
I have no doubt it will be a smash hit on Netflix, it pulls the right strings.

The only big inconsistency was

Don't Look Up - 7/10 One of the best Netflix movies for ages. It was like another Idiocracy (which was so great btw). Both movies were funny at times until they make you cry after realising how realistic these situations can be considering the world we are living in.

Charlie Brooker wasn't attached to this. I had a few chuckles but overall meh.
