The original console release was a mix of, watch out, 960x544 and 720p. With medium, low, lower than low and tuned off details. And the framerate would drop in the 20s when action started.

That console gen was trully shit. Games in later years like Skyrim or Far Cry 3 would almost end up in single digit framerates at times. Makes the popular "console optimization" concept quite funny, because you heard this by default in the older days, before we had so many framerate measuring tools to actually see that console game after they went 3d, you can count on your fingers the games that ran well.

Clearly the remastered is gonna be better, but there wont be some huge difference. Especially in the portion of the game thats at night. During daytime, it will be more noticeable.

BUT... (as an exception to the rule)...
There ARE 'some' RARE games that can still look much, MUCH better using HDR, even on some HDR(less-than-1000), more accessible display. For example: Battlefield 1 and Mass Effect Andromeda.

What the fuck are you talking about Or are you looking at it from the narrowest point of view of a pC gAeMiNg?
On the Television front, even cheap Vizio 4K TVs have enough brightness these days to make a difference with HDR, and they start at 250$.
The problem isn't the user base hardware, but the lazy ass derpelopers, and the retard drones lapping it up and buying garbage like this. They are reusing the same crappy engine from 2010. It's not even PBR. Everything looks like plastic. Animations are as terrible as they have always been (including the stick up Alan's ass, giving him Weak Anal 🥁). |

LG 48" c1 oled is cheaper than a new iphone and it's 120hz, hdmi 2.1, amazing hdr... it's pretty much perfect. And to think they sell lcd monitors for the same price

no but lcd alternatives with proper dimming zones are similarly priced.
alas - lcd with good hdr even without dimming zones would be good in bright living room. Less so on a desk maybe

You don't need dimming either. It's a function of how bright the LCD diodes can get. Dimming zones control for deeper blacks, but also introduce artifacts of their own.
On the desk, I am not familiar with one computer monitor that has good HDR support. I mean, "HDR400"? Even "HDR600" is pushing it. Show me screen that has 1000nit brightness that doesn't cost thousands. PC monitors really dropped the ball this generation. Used to be that TVs were pushing the prices, while the monitors were the hidden gems (for example, an OK enough 1080p screen was much cheaper than a 1080p TV). Now, the TVs are far superior in quality, and cheaper.
