The AI is absolutely braindead. Having recently finished Dishonored 2 after a couple of years the difference is jarring.
The performance is weird - it's still above 110 FPS for me (144hz monitor, 1440p, GeForce 3070, i7-8770 K, 16GB RAM) using the recommended settings by Digital Foundry, but it still stutters and it makes the FPS seem lower than it really is.
The thing that is absolutely amazing in this game is VO work, especially for Colt and Julianna. The music is also OK.
But the gameplay itself? Sure, when you're still figuring stuff out and there's some air of mystery, you're collecting notes and everything - it's decent. I still prefer Dishonored 1/2 though. When you collect trinkets for the first time and it grants you something you know you can use (like Steel Lungs allowing you to breathe gas without losing HP), when you barely have enough residduum to infuse things - the game is good.
But the gun I found basically in the first 3 hours
Spoiler:
the silenced SMG found in Egor's lab
is the gun I used in the following 20 hours when I finished the game. After finding the optimal loudout of the trinkets I sold everything I collected, so I had >50k residuum after some runs. I honestly don't know the need to use trinkets like increased HP or Power, since the latter recharges superfast, and there's health vials all over the place so HP is not needed either. The weapon trinkets are mostly useless as well, since the gun I mentioned (and honestly - most guns) kills everyone with 1 hit to the head - always (apart from Visionaries). Why would I waste one slot of character trinket with "do more damage from behind", when I can kill 5 people within 3 seconds with headshots.
And the fact that there is only one "proper" way to kill each one of the visionaries in a day is disappointing as well.
Overall, it's meh. Watch the full playthrough on YT to admire the voice acting and play some music tracks. It's a massive disappointment for me, even though I enjoyed playing it.
6/10 max.
Quoted for the new page, for anyone still curious about this.
Can you even speedrun the game and kill all visionaries on the first day?
That the game is very linear, even though it has a loop as theme, was already apparent to me after seeing some gameplay.
There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.

No, you need a bunch of info to trigger some events in order to find more visionaries in one spot.
I like the design, it's very good. I don't mind having to visit a map at times just to grab a piece of info. What bothers me is the dumb AI and the crippling performance issues.
Having open Chrome CTD the game for me. Jesus Fucking Christ
I agree with Nodrim the design is fine. The story is fine. The AI is abysmal, it's beyond stupid and there is almost no challenge.
It would be nice to have some quit and save system and not starting a level from the beginning too.
So far 6.5/10. I enjoy it but I get the complains.

If you die and restart from the beginning, does the game tells you wich is the fastest path to get to the objective, besides telling you wich one is it?
This last one as in, as I remember one of them long commented gameplays from Bethesda, that you had to get clues to

Is there a way to "skip time" to get the objective to get it's ass out already or even kill it before the event happens or what?.. Because it sounds like a PAINFUL WAITING PAIN IN THE ASS

You can skip a part of the day. The targets can be found in their base locations or forced to appear somewhere else. You have to kill or set a trap to murder a couple of them in part of the day but you have to unlock some information first. Because in normal order there is only a single target on a single location.
But if you want to max out the powers you have to kill them five times.
I read on some other forum that the difficulty rises with the amount of visionaries killed.

Does the game only save at the end/start of the day, or each time when exiting a map?
There are moments you only play a map for a few minutes, depending on your goals. I guess it'll take a bit longer when the goal is to kill a visionary.

So if i get this right, you buy that adapter thingy and get Deathloop full bersion on top. Altogether for 22€ , seems like a good deal
Over at ebay the asus shop has the tuf gaming m3 mouse with the promotion mentioned on the page for 11€.
Gonna see in a few days if I actually get both the mouse & the key for that price.
Well, from what you are saying, it sounds like you are watching this guy just because he says bad things about AAA companies. You need that? Or you need good reviews (which this guy can hardly provide and I'm being very nice here. ).
It's not about 'bad' things. It's about facts and shit industry practices that are not 'mentioned' by the other channels.
And you already know that, and know what I mean. You just have a high horse that forbids you sometimes to see some simple things around you.
If I'd have to choose between channels of shills and channels with mediocre reviews that mention bad practices, I'd rather not choose at all.
I'm playing at 1440p. I get between 75-140 fps in this game on my 3080, because stability is not this game's strongest suit. I gain like 3 fps with FSR ultra quality and the drop in quality is quite visible.
Okay, no issues for you playing in native res then beyond not being able to max out your monitors refresh rate (but it's not dipping below 60 and you could lock the framerate at ~75fps to get a more even frame rate if there's noticeable jittering). I think it makes more sense for people with weaker GPU's/4k monitors that want to play in native mode. Since all my screens (monitors and TV) are 1080P native I can't check it out for myself so I can't say much about FSR beyond what I can read online. The little I know tells me there are situations where it makes sense/helps as well as situations where the quality of the upscaled image isn't worth it.
What does it look like if you use standard upscaling without FSR (if the game or drivers supports it)?
As I wrote in the GPU thread a month or so ago I made the assumption that FSR would be updated with better algorithms as time passed and they learnt about the limitations of the original implementation. I don't know if that's actually going to happen or not.
Btw. isn't it possible to force DLSS 2.0 in the drivers, possibly using NV Profile Inspector? Or is it a must that the game specifically support it (ie. have NV proprietary code in the game code)?
I didn't try standard upscaling. I can't remember if the option is available in the game. However, given the laughable performance, a solution like DLSS was needed to overcome the questionable coding/engine (that's why I tried FSR in the first place). It's good that they chose the inferior option.
It's not an amd partnered game. They just didn't implement dlss, their choice i guess.

There's nothing further to update to what they're doing. This is it. It's either a new solution or this blurry, smeared, lacking in detail piece of shit is what we're stuck with on the amdturd side

Of course they can improve FSR by adding/redesigning/rewriting/tweaking the algorithms as well as new implementations:
Quote:
AMD FSR has four different modes: Ultra Quality, Quality, Balanced and Performance. With the highest level, Performance mode, depicted in the above chart, AMD claims you’ll see an average performance gain of 2.4x at 4K resolution. But more upscaling results in more visual artifacts. And, like the highest level of performance with Nvidia’s DLSS, you can expect noticeable artifacts with FSR Performance mode.
The four modes run at different levels of upscaling. Ultra Quality uses a 1.3x scaling factor, while Quality uses 1.5x scaling, Balanced uses 1.7x scaling and Performance uses 2.0x scaling. That scaling factor applies in each dimension, so as an example, 3840 x 2160 with Quality mode would render at 2560 x 1440 — 44.4% as many pixels total compared to 4K.
AMD also has plans for dynamic scaling factors, though this hasn't been implemented yet. Dynamic scaling would allow games to render at anywhere from native resolution to 50% of native resolution, and everything in between, normally with a target framerate specified in the game.
In the end it seems to be a trade-off between quality and performance depending on your needs and configuration. There are apparently cases where FSR isn't "optimal" (ie. introduces blurry artifacts without showing a significant performance increase) while there are cases where it makes a big difference depending on configuration and game. I guess a low end GPU that can't push 60+ fps on a 1440 monitor would benefit more. It also makes it possible to use RTX without the heavy performance cost if running in native 1440. After all, a 1440 monitor has 78% more pixels than a 1080 monitor which explains the serious need for solutions like DLSS and FSR even if the latter is inferior (ie. it's an open source algorithm, not a system using special Tensor Cores to intelligently upscale images). 4K has ~130% more pixels than a 1440 monitor and it still doesn't seem like 4K is a candidate for PC's mainly used for gaming yet.
@Nodrim: It seems the game is bugged/broken and need some serious patching. I don't know if the game engine affects the FSR implementation (like engine video/advanced graphics settings colliding with FSR) or if FSR just sucks in Deathloop. Since you've got a 3080 I do hope they patch in proper DLSS 2 support since some of the premium price you paid includes DLSS v2 (v2.2.1).
Addition (some reddit thread):
Q: "Can FSR be improved?"
A: "Definitely, and it will also depend on whether they will start using more information in future versions (e.g. motion vectors), though that will require more integration work by game engine devs."

Well yeah, if they make a new solution then its something else, not what they have now, thats why i said that they cant improve further with what they have right now. This is the limit with what they are doing now.
I find fsr unusable in the games i personally looked at it. The entire image is blurred, its not one or two elements in a scene, like how it sometimes happens with dlss when you sometimes get some gosting when certain objects are moving or some reflection in a puddle has a lower res than the rest of the image. With fsr EVERYTHING is blurred. Details are muted or removed entirely. Aliasing is enhanced. In Deathloop you know in 1 second fsr is activated because the gun in your hands all of a sudden has jaggies all over the place.
I would much rather look at lowering individual heavy settings that might not have that much impact on performance, for example in Kena lowering shadows from ultra to high gave me a 40% improvement in framerate and volumetric fog gave me another 15% improvement in framerate. Id rather tune every game like this where possible than soften and blur every game. AMD is forced to make it open source because nobody buys their gpu's. nvidia has 83% of the market. Nobody would implement stuff from amd if they were not open source.
didnt buy or play this yet but is this basically like Prey Mooncrash?
on paper it sounds alot like it with some little differences
It's more like Dishonored with guns and no nonlethal approach with a bit of Mooncrash. With retarded AI...
Spoiler:
It's also hinted it takes place in Dishonored universe but 100 years since the Death of Outsider

Well, a lot of the time these reviewers play these games on console. Sometimes, I see the likes of ACG playing PC games with a controller as well while providing no information about the status of PC base peripherals functionality in those games.
The focus of these reviews is language, meaning they try to captivate the audience and not necessarily focus on a balanced overview of the product unless it's truly necessary (this is the case of insanely broken games).
Also, many youtube reviewers did adhere to the scoring "standards" of mainstream media. You'd rarely see a high budget game with a score below 8.
But the consumer bears a lot of the fault for being complacent with nicely said words that bolster products and sales rather than looking for a detailed analysis. Others can't stand having the games they love or are hyped about being put down which is hilarious if you think about it (valuing oneself based on the products you enjoy is not the greatest outlook).
I could go on, but I'm sure you know most of these things. I actually spend some time trying to get an insight on this matter and as a result, I gave up writing reviews altogether. So, look at the bright side, no more spamming from me!
This is nothing new, it's been like this more or less since the 80'ies with 0ZX Spectrum, C64, Atari ST and Amiga magazines where games from bigger publishers and developers (some of which reached rockstar status) got higher scores than they should have and a LOT of money and other perks was paid/given to editors and reviewers for dishonest reviews in order to sell many many copies.
It's just sad. In the 90'ies they tried the shareware/demo route which worked well for a while, esp. for ID Software but the big publishers saw that as a waste of money and sales.. why let people play a good chunk of the game for free instead of blindly buying it based on nothing but hype and dishonest reviews?
This aspect makes me really miss total biscuit. He was an actual pc gamer, that guy. He didnt discover computers last week then started removing his ps controller from the console and pluging it in a computer then saying he's pc gaming now.
Half his videos were in the options menu, championing for FOV sliders a decade before the rest. ALWAYS using mouse and keyboard and dissecting if its good or not.
We haven't really gotten another guy like him since he died.
