This is not that different from other RPG's. Divinity original sin and sequal are even more combat focused.
Personally I kinda like a linear aproach. There are no filler quests (and no dillema what part of the game to complete cause the filler stuff is mediocre but hey, gotta complete the game), no pointless chalanges, no senseless stuff to collect or complete no running around and talk to people to listen to mediocre dialogue about some romance a 10 year old could write. Just a game with nice level design and combat like in the old days.
The story and cutscenes are crap but it's a small part of the game, the rest is great.
Part of the joy is nostalgia though, it's basicaly icewind dale done better (cause gaming evolved, also dnd 5 is so much better then 3.5), and I liked that stuff at the day.
