This is the last true 'Assassins' game.

Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla (even) are good games. But they're a different breed: action, adventure, accessible, casual.

Unity is like... the King is dead, long live the King.

The last true Assassins game was the first one, it's the only one that had any semblance of stealth. Every subsequent sequel removed more of the stealth mechanics in favor of more action.

Shame really, but Ubisoft should have made different series that could have spawned from the original game. More action orientated, go with AC2, AC3. You want a pirate game with no templar/assassin nonsense, go with Black Flag. You want a tour of history and its major monuments, go to Unity, Syndicate. If you want a tour of history and its major monuments while telepathically guiding arrows and kicking people all the way to the moon, go with Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla.

As far as I'm concerned, AC stopped at 1. Very Happy

But then again, what do I know, these sequels seem to be selling like hotcakes.

The first AC was very limited in terms of stealth and options though. But it had those beautiful, violent cutscenes for every target. And the music was great.
AC stopped feeling like AC when Jesper Kyd left (after Revelations).
Though I also enjoyed most of the games after that, in their own way.

Unity was so beautiful. But it was so big and repetitive too.. Also I found the city to be overpopulated extremely. Honestly, while tons of NPC is usually a good thing (think Hitman), in Unity it is just an annoyance. It is unrealistic that the streets are sprawling like that at all times including the night. And the longer you play, the more annoying navigating gets cause you're constantly colliding with the masses of people roaming around.

Syndicate was better in that regard, but also too big (even bigger than Paris) and too long and too repetitive and for some reason uglier than Unity. But overall I think Syndicate is the slightly better game, for it is less hectic, more refined and it has a pretty good main storyline.
