its just eastern european folklore and approach to storytelling+ a rough translation.
we are all used to western and asian cultures and their approach to story telling that something like cryostasis comes of as really awkward and obtuse.
I didn't think it was a terible story at all. well, maybe the last boss was a bit lol worthy, but rarely do games have satisfyingi endings.

+1. Story was fine. It was quite interesting to learn more about what happened to the ship, its captain and that folklore parallel story. I liked it a lot.
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"

Necro time!
Metro Exodus release is on the horizon (also Atomic Heart in the making) and it occured to me that there was this long forgotten gem made similarly by Ukrainian developers, I thought I'll whip it out and give it a spin after many many years. I was really curious how it aged.
When I first played this around release I didn't even dare to touch the PhysX settings as I knew my rig couldn't handle it, and it still didn't ran perfectly. This time I cranked every graphics setting up with PhysX and man this game is a very very unpolished rough diamond and one of the most unoptimized games I must say. It still manages to dip below 60fps in certain areas which is just baffling, add to that it is prone to crash now and then... The lighting/shadows are still very good though and the PhysX effects - although a huge gimmick - add greatly to the immersion in a few areas. I mean I've never seen water act like this anywhere else, how a completely frozen room starts to melt and water begins dripping. It's not mind blowing stuff by any means but as I said it greatly adds to the immersion in this game.
While the game is really rough in many ways, the atmosphere, the warm/cold gameplay aspect, and the story really outshine the negatives for me. It shows flashes of brilliance in many spots, one could see that the devs really tried. The game is at it's best when it balances claustrophobic exploration, feeling of isolation, story tidbits mixed with a few encounters, and at it's worst when just throwing enemies at you again and again in some levels.
I always considered this game the eastern Condemned, which I loved, and I didn't regret revisiting this fine piece.
If you haven't played this game before, love Condemned, Penumbra, or even SOMA, and if you don't mind some crashes and bugs, I recommend this for a spin even today.
