Just reinstall it. Remember how shitty the combat was/is.

I loved it. You need to learn attack patterns of the enemies. It's all about positioning and timing. Very simple, but feels so nice, once you have it down.

@Radicalus how would you compare this to Outer Worlds?

It has it charm and with all it faults it can be engaging. I didn't like the combat I found it classic PB trying to do a dark souls and IMO failing hard.

And I'm with Interinactive on how it compares to Boring Worlds.

Pretty good and somewhat expected results, I'm in my 30+ too and remember gold gothic games and just old aRPG in general.

Tons of mods on nexus, no community mods on steam though.

I'd like one that disables the option to sit in chairs......who sits in these games?

Jack, you only need one mod:
https://www.nexusmods.com/elex/mods/55

Massive IMHO warning: do NOT rebalance the game. Rebalance makes the game easier in the beginning - which kind of takes away the whole atmosphere.

Purist is best way to play this. I love this game.

This is the closest game they've made to G1 and G2.

Loving it.

It really does feel like Gothic.

Hopefully though Elex 2 will have a bit smaller map. The exploration aspect is great, but the enormous map kinda fuels my reluctance for a second playthrough. Gothic 2 worldsize was perfect for me. Risen was a bit bigger, but still manageble. I love the lore in Elex, but finding it all is just so tedious when you try doing it a second time. And yes, I have to find all the lore and visit all the places Very Happy

Agreed on the overwhelming map size.

I don't want a smaller map, but getting a jet pack within the first 5 minutes of playtime is kinda crazy.

G1 and G2 would have mountains you couldn't climb and some pathways would have a huge enemy or group or hard enemies you had to defeat in order to progress through the map.

In Elex, you can literally fly anywhere from the beginning, and can be overwhelming. Especially considering most enemies and plants respawn....this makes it difficult to know where you've been or haven't been. Whereas in G1 and G2 nothing respawned.

Still a great game.....

G2 had respawns on chapter changes though.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

I loved how G2 handled it, they occasionally shoved some really dangerous enemies on well used paths that you had previously cleared in some instances.

Really caught you off guard if you weren't careful in the later chapters.

In ELEX you couldn't go anywhere until the middle of the game. Literally everything one shots you. Very Happy Really killed my adventurous spirit used to explore as much as possible but was much more bearable after level 20 or so.

I also think Elex has some slight balancing issues compared to G2 plus the characters could have had a little more to do and say but its still an awesome game and certainly one of their best.

I think my biggest annoyance with Elex was the character system. Stats not actually doing anything but unlocking new skills was disappointing.

It removed the gradual curve of character development that you got in the Gothic games.

Pretty sure stats at least increase you melee hit strength, HP, and weapon reach tho.

I don't like having the option of having a helper follow you around either. If you stand back and they kill a mob without your help, you get XP. Thankfully, it's an OPTION.

I actually loved this.

Attributes like STR only influence, what you can equip. I loooved it. It's like a milestone system, when you figure out a good build, and reach the next milestone (which happens seldom), you really feel the bump in power.

This is why Piranha Bytes does the power fantasy best. At first you die at every time a frog sneezes at you. And in the end you squash armies of tech-walkers.

I think this is the best RPG system. Not many increments, but each increment meaningful to work towards.

Loved this game. AA is where it's at.

Finished the game for the second time, had fun.

One thing I miss in newPB games is almost no one gives you directions anywhere. You literally would not be able to finish most quests without the markers. I've gotten so used to them that I missed a chapel during my cleric initiation, since it wasn't marked, but the questgiver simply said it was right outside the gates Very Happy

Compared to Gothic 1 and 2, where you could manouver the world on directions alone it's pretty weak.

Gothic 2: "I lost my crossbow next to a weird stone circle in the north. If you want to risk it you can get there if you follow the path next to my camp"
Elex: "Waah, I lost my bow somewhere in the woods, don't know where" *map marker shows exactly where".

At least you get short quest descriptions, but that's still a long way from detailed ones you got in their first games.

Still, good game, will probably play again and hopefully we get some info on Elex 2 in the near future.

I've yet to encounter this.

Every damn quest says something brief about where to find someone/something and doesn't have a map marker. Maybe a map marker for a city they need you to travel to, but nothing marking a person to talk to or an object to find...

I think that's in the Berserker's city. Or maybe in that hut with exiles to the south area where you with the lift. Can't remember specifics about the quest but there was still a marker for the area to search it in?

Seriously I forgot if all quests had markers or "go to place X, it's somewhere there" but didn't have issues finding the targets. I remember some other quest where group of Alps send you to kill a girl and her "pet golem". That didn't have a marker, I believe, just "they are east of here" but was super near to not find it.
