They did bad job with creating the lore of the world - to know what happened you really need to read wikis. The stagnation that was the result of well a nuclear war and Bartmoss fucking up the internet. There are tidbits but I really had to read it on external sites. The same with Relic and Saburo - Yorinobu. It's never really explained in game why Yorinobu had the relic but on wiki it's stated that he had it to lure his father into his apartment.

This is why I write that this game has weak writing. But it also had a lot of cut content so maybe the writing is there but cut.

That's obviously the super duper TL:DR version, condensing down my memory of several chapters of two books into a couple of lines. There's a bit more nuance in the source material, but that's more or less the gist.

A big part of the problem is all the retcons to the existing 2020 lore. Even if you thought you knew what happened, events in-game don't align with that version of the lore.

Also the quest journal logs should be more descriptive. All of them are Johhny saying:
"Yeah yeah this is a good quest for you to get more Xp. You are running windows vista!"

Database is total freedom: Either they decided that this person gets an entry or not. Mr Hands doesn't have a database entry, The TV start girl doesn't have an entry etc...

It's kind of explained in the PnP Cyberpunk Red, which is set in 2045, and the World of Cyberpunk 2077 book. Basically the events of the 4th Corporate War, which culminated in the second Johnny flashback you see in the game, completely fucked the global economy over. There was essentially a global depression kind of like in the 30s and technology stagnated or regressed. Things started to pick back up in the 2060s so by the time of 2077 they are more less barely ahead of where things were in the 2020s.

Pretty stupid, but I assume this was down to Pondsmith wanting plenty of breathing room between his new PnP edition and CDPR's version of the setting, but at the same time 2077 had to more or less stick to the broad strokes of the 2020 PnP to make the most out of the IP.

As far as I understood from one of the quests you do with Panam where you steal some "ancient" 2020's train to crash it into a Militech convoy they say people before 2020 used slightly more advanced technology, like the "punch cards" in that mission to turn on the train.

But in some old messages from 2020 it's noted the lands around are all fucked from radiation. I gather there was a nuclear war around the planet that destroyed most of the planet and at the time of Cyberpunk 2077 it's still recovering. But the 4th corpo war didn't involve any nukes as far as I understood, This has to be a separate world conflict.

Yeah there was only the one nuke as far as I know, the one from Johnny's team in Arasaka Tower in Night City (and even that was only a low yield). But elsewhere as part of the 4th Corporate War there were also orbital strikes, conventional bombiings/explosives, and "continent-wide firestorms" (not sure what from though). Arasaka and Militech were going at it on virtually every continent.

The tech was advanced but after Batmoss crashed the net they reverted to punchcards.

And done!

Extra time on GOG Galaxy is from idling, running the different endings (except the secret one since I must have not sucked up to Johnny enough) and just reloads I guess.

What do I think about it then? An absolute mess of a game and I fucking loved it. I just hope it'll be much a pretty different game when I'll replay it, maybe in a year, I'd say. Loved what the did with the endings, probably one of the games that handled different endings the best. Ironic, considering how little things seem to matter during the rest of the game, but yeah... each one is different and meaningful, all bitter-sweet but in various ways.

200 hours? Shiiiiiiit... I envy your ability to play a game for a second time after 100% it on your first playthrough.

I doubt future playthroughs will take me as long. I tend to not replay most games I play, but there are exceptions, so my first playthrough is always as thorough as possible. I also have a way of playing games fairly slowly.

I forgot to mention that there are 2 (that I am aware of) quests that I didn't do as they never triggered: the last missions from Delamain and Kerry.

Wait, does that bother you? Yeah, there's still some of us playing it and enjoying it despite the occasional emergence of immersion-breaking bugs and even after doing at least one of the endings (my canon ending is "The Star"). Before passing the point of no return I left undone quite a few fixer gigs and "crime activities" and a few cyberpsychos to capture. Surprisingly, after reloading from the end credits I've still got a couple of side quests from non-essential characters like for example certain j-pop star Very Happy

If that comforts you I disabled many of the shitty post-processing effects but let motion blur enabled Laughing

Yup! Yorinobu says it. Speaking of that ending... I know it's not one that people would go for, but that should not take away from awesome it is. It's so unsettling, heart wrenching at points and it has 2 paths of its own.

There's also an Iron Man reference out in the Badlands. Might be others I've seen that I don't remember and aren't mentioned in that article. Also, there are so many more references to other things as well. The San Andreas one with CJ and Smoke I found funny. Laughing

"Stop having fun", you say? Mad

It's not "too good" but it's still a good game. Rough and bugged, just like the good ol' time. Gothic, Vampire: The Masquarade, Morrowind. All good games that had so many bugs. But still loved games.

Cyberpunk 2077 is the same - a rough gem, sometimes hard to play and watch due to bugs but the world is nice, the combat is fun and the story is great. Doesn't excel in any of these but put together it's a good game. Far better than Witcher 3 imo which had amazing world and some good writing at times but nothing else.

Just saw the suicide ending on Youtube. Man, the voice acting is so good in this. Judy's reaction is hard to watch. Such a shame most people when never even complete the game.
