"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
Seriously! Why isn't Hollywood using this? Fucking Scorsese wasted millions on deaging CGI crap, which looked terrible, where these home hobbyists are getting better results in their basements. I don't understand it. Given a fraction of a Hollywood CGI budget, a much stable and high resolution result would be produced, which actually looks good.

This one by the same guy(s?) is much more impressive because the deepfake was on a real face with real mimic. The deepfake in tron still had the same wooden animation.
Deepfake only matured to this level in the last 1-2 years. TronLegacy came out 10 years ago. The tech was nowhere near as mature as it is now. It's so advanced that everyone with a little knowhow can use it. 10 years ago...not so much.
De Niro DeeoFake was amazing, Follywood should hire these guys, either to work on movies or to teach the secrets of proper deep fake de-aging. Tron Legacy was hampered by the source material. Han Solo looks weird as hell since the face and head doesn't have the right shape whatsoever. Still, technically it's great.
Issue is the editor or vfx house they use may not know the complete ins and outs of deep fakes. As in youtubers and such put in their own time and effort to learn and test and study it. They don't afik teach it yet. Not fully at least. And unless you have no projects you won't put your free time into learning new tech, unless they pay you for it, or you take time off work to learn it. Which as an editor means you're either working or you're not.
So thats why you have mixed results across the spectrum of Hollywood blockbusters. You get good results when time and money is spent, and sometimes there isn't money or time to spend to get good results.
