F'n scam artists lol. Make people believe they're saving money, by adding a fake discount.

Nothing great about that. They're gouging people, and after crawling to steam after their Epic exclusivity is over with this price... fuck them.

And this is why when someone brings up 'Obsidian' or some developer's name as if they are gods gift to gaming, I no longer give a fuck.

This is the most disappointing aspect of the Outer Worlds. A lot of time you can point to a decline in quality of new games from "classic" studios being linked to none of the original developers working there any more. But TOW was supposed to be the (partial) getting the band back together for Troika, with Cain and Boyarsky at the helm given apparently free reign on a smallish project. For it to turn out how it did, ugh. And you can't even blame publisher/Obsidian management interference, based on some of the interviews they did.

TBH there is some great game design behind it all. The multiple endings, the fact that you can switch sides and kill some main characters and the game cope with that. Even the main story is good when it's actually in the game but... That's almost exclusively the beginning and the ending at least while playing as the rebel.
Unfortunately there's the actual game in between with it's weak ass combat, exploration, loot and poor map design and the fact that's a fps with some poorly implemented rpg mechanics.
Yet it's prised by critics and sold by millions. Thanks Bethesda.

Not worth a buy. Game is shit and Obsidian has Bethesda and how shit FO76 was to thank for its "success".

Sites that gave this a glowing review probably only played the first planet where it does feel like things matter and that there's a lot more to see but there isn't really, and I guess they just rushed to publish their articles and pat themselves on the back for standing up for the little guy even if the little guy shat the bed.

Perhaps there might be some good ideas, but no, the design is fucking terrible.

No it's the design, the implementation is terrible.

I enjoyed the first planet (even with the game being flawed) but I lost interest after that. Saw the same when my wife was playing it and then it wasn't surprising to see more people bringing that up.

They could have made something out of it... but for some reason that never happened. Maybe the usual Kickstarter thing: blow a load of money on the first campaign realising too late it needs to last till the game is finished.

You can tell they gave up/ran out of money after the first planet. I agree there's a decent game hidden very, very deep inside. Basically, I think the tutorial area was the best and most fleshed out part. Laughing

Edit: critics after the 1st planet are common, proven again Laughing

I enjoyed it even though it was, as the developers announced, nowhere near Triple-A or Double-A as far as time, resources and financing was concerned. You can see it in how most of the game after the beginning and before the end is basically the same, just on different planets with slightly different environments (but still very similar). It was good for what it was, ie. an underfunded game with a very small team making a rather ambitious game. They could've removed a planet and spent the time and resources to make a shorter game better.

Still, it was good enough for me to finish and I tend to be quite picky and uninstall games that bore me.

Is the first DLC good?

I'm seeing that the Season Pass is discounted right now and I'm thinking about getting it. Usually Obsidian story based expansions are pretty decent.

Quote:
The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition is the ultimate way for new and returning fans alike to experience The Outer Worlds. Higher resolution graphics, a dynamic weather system, overhauled lighting and environments, improved performance and load times, enhanced details on characters, an increased level cap, and much more await spacers who bravely and boldly carve their path through the conspiratorial Halcyon colony.

If you already have The Outer Worlds and its associated DLC, Murder on Eridanos and Peril on Gorgon, on Steam; you can upgrade to The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition for a reduced purchase price*. To enable the upgrade purchasing option, you must be signed into the same Steam Account used to purchase the base game and its associated DLC and select the “Complete the Bundle” purchasing option.

There’s never been a better chance to experience 2019’s celebrated, award-winning sci-fi RPG, whether players are taking another trip around the galaxy or adventuring for the first time. It's not the best choice, it's Spacer's Choice!

*Based on Private Division’s suggested retail price for The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition on PC. Limit of one upgrade per account.

Maybe I'll be able to finish it this time Laughing

It doesn't sound like the new version is going to address the unrewarding exploration, silly loot system, mundane encounters and just the game's outstanding ability to be forgettable Cool Face

I still had some fun playing through the ISOdemo though, a polished and charming yet 100% safe and unoffensive experience à-la RPG for dummies designed to require little involvement from the player. It's the typical disposable formula with little personality that journos irrationally love - then again, averageness is the new greatness. My expectations were relatively low despite Cain and Boyarsky's involvement since this is a different gaming era where priorities have radically changed, and (sadly) the creative drive of such glorious veterans has likely declined as well.

I remember the city at the end felt like a prototype early access asset flip. I'm surprised they're charging previous owners for what looks like a minor visual upgrade.

feels like an excuse to bump the game on steam's main page and maybe remove the old version from steam so they can sell the new version full priced. well we will see....
