I wonder if PS5 will be able to play discs games without checking online (like previous consoles) to prevent people from getting games early ? That's probably the only reason I'd go physical cuz was kinda glad to be able to get FF7 Remake 1 week early
It's so huge. My ikea shelving will not fit it probably (kallax boxes)

The PS5 was designed to feel at home in the modern living room.
Back and white are the official PS5 colors, so it doesn’t sound like the company intends to release color variants of the devices at launch.
Just sony being idiots. Its not that i find it ugly, but it does not "feel at home" with the rest of my stuff. Its basically like having a normal pc then a logitech transformer mouse. Doesnt fit :lol"
where does this idea come from that consoles needs to look "cool"? What if everyone doing hi-fi equipment or blue-ray players etc thought this would be a good idea too? "it needs to look like a SpaCe sHIp or else we fail!"
How would a shelf or a rack for something like that look? Probably like you were entering some kids room and his gigantic star wars collection.
It guess it could be one thing if consoles were completely aimed towards small children and for a price of $29.99, but its not. When you have several consoles it'll begin to look rather ridiculous.
i don't really care since im not gonna buy it anyway, but people these days still got tv racks?
everywhere i go i here how tvs are gonna die anyway in the future and now suddenly everyone has a rack with tons of equipment, like it's still the 80's/90's.
got my tv mounted on the wall with one white cable canal for 2-3 cables, so you can't really see them behind the white wall. so what do i need a rack for?
i don't think this is supposed to be aimed at the generation 40+ and i cant't imagine younger people still buy racks and all of that. they maybe got a small soundbar but thats it.
just like with big wall units, which you can see at your grandmas house, no one is buying those anymore, for a good reason.
im happy that my router is white, so i could wall mount it and it fits.
if i would buy a ps5, i could put it under my tv on a shelf, right in front of the wall and it wouldn't be noticed, or atleast not like a big black square tower.

If you have serious hi-fi equipment you have a rack. toys are always rackless, toy speakers are always invisible etc.

A lot of homes (incluing mine) have the TV in a corner, and even most of those that don't probably don't wall hang them. I don't think we're talking about ugly 80s style midi-hifi's here. I have a simple all glass unit consisting of a couple of open glass shelves and metal support pillars at each corner, soundbar on top level alongside TV and sub next to it. Fairly common solution, and looks neat, modern and provides plenty of space for router, hard drives, games consoles, whatever on the lower shelves. I could easily fit a PS5 on one of those sideways, or just stand it next to it. Like you, I won't be buying one anytime soon, but the size wouldn't be a barrier in itself.
People saying TV's will die are the same ones who were saying laptops would disappear when tablets appeared, and that games consoles would disappear when smartphones took off. You can't beat viewing content on a big dedicated high quality screen, and mobile gaming on a touchscreen can't rival dedicated consoles. Hence, here we are.
And btw I'm in my late 40s (username checks out?!) and just as into my tech and my gaming as I was thirty years ago, so we're not quite all confused old luddites when we hit the big four o!
Were the human beings talking about the next-generation console even real?
Part of the reason this belief spread is that the showcase began by telling people that what they were about to see was captured on the PS5. Some took that to mean everything within the livestream was made via the console, ignoring that the slide specifies “game footage.”
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
Amazon France briefly listed the PlayStation 5’s price and release date before taking that information out of the listing.

The fuck was they thinking making a console needing a stand? Never seen this before, otherwise it looks awesome but the stand is so ugly and it's really a shame that even the DE that looked more even then the disc PS5 needs a stand.
It looks good but as someone who dabbles in the occasional console repair i can just feel how flimsy and cheap that is. I hate PlayStation insides already
Why would anyone buy a digital only console? You can't re-sell your games.
Convenience. I usually play 2 or 3 games at the same time and not having to get up and change a disc is nice.
I also don't sell used games. I only buy exclusives anyway and most of them are good enough for a second (or third) playthrough. Depends on the price difference but if it is 100€ or more, I will go for the digital only.

I sold my PS4 already, but kept all the games - I have 0 games on my PSN account, all are hard copies

Me too. A fair few of my games are indies, so often no physical option anyway, other than that a few exclusives, ps+ stuff and the odd game I buy on a steep psn sale discount. I never thought I'd want a digital only console, but I think I'd miss the option to play uhd discs more than games. But working through that logic, how many uhd blu-rays do I have? thanks probably to x265 rips on torrents, none. I have a lot of dvd's, but I'm as likely to play them again as I am one of my CD's. The overriding convenience of digital wins. My games get rotated much more when they're digital. What a first world problem to have when we're too lazy to get off our arses and change a disc.
As above, if it's a decent difference in price I'll probably go digital on the PS5. And I suspect the price difference WILL be far bigger than the cost price of the drive, because Sony want to drive people in that direction as much as possible. I've seen credible leaks that it could be 100 euros. Which probably means $100, and close to £100 here in the UK too.

Question though, how are you gonna play your hard copies on PS5 Digital Edition ?
