The studio had help flashing out the story by a writer. The same guy who later went on to write for Talos Principle.
That's interesting, I checked the bio and he was also responsible for Subnautica's writing. No wonder the lore and sense of mystery were so captivating in there, the guy is really good at what he does.

I hear you, I like puzzles too but get frustrated when they get too hard (Talos, The Witness). Have you tried The Turing Test? That requires a bit of thinking but nothing that will wind you up too much.
yeah the witness too is in that category. did not tried the turing test as many said it has very easy puzzles, but i did not get the swapper for the puzzles but instead because it was a good side scroller game
