Is the game itself good? I'm planning to replay this and Chaos Theory. I don't mind technical issues really, as long as I don't get gamebreaking bugs. Is patch 1.02a not cracked?

Play Double Agent first, and then Chaos Theory. That way you won't end up feeling like you just chewed dog shit for 10 hours.

Wouldn't that screw up the story? To be clear, I don't expect Chaos Theory gameplay form Double Agent.

DA is a open ended game that has 4 endings (based on the 16 played choises you made you get good ending, normal ending, bad ending , very bad ending ... just like in Silent Hill games your performance and decisions make the ending )
Chaos theory is not connected with DA only with Splinter Cell 1 Spoiler: | computer virus | thing so to get Chaos theory you should complete SC 1 and then CT

I'm pretty sure there are 3 endings, and you can get them by save scumming in the last couple of missions (starting with Kinshasa).

Some good troll gems in this thread, good to necro
anyways 4th splinter cell game in a row for me. i'm officially sam fisher's bitch
Damn bugs in this game. One whole map, kinshasa part 2, pretty much 90% of quick loads crash the game. and then you have to restart the game, and wait for what is the longest load time i've seen since upgrading to an SSD.
like 15+ second load time... its like the game code is messed up and instead of quick loading, it loads the whole map again as if you switched levels, because on every other map, quickload is instant.
If it wasn't for the bugs would be a very good game. besides the load bug in that map, i've had a few hilarious ones, like a couple of guards walking in place, a few guards being alert randomly and homing in your position for no reason. and the funniest one is the double door on the consumel cruiser level.
they made a door that has two door parts at a 90 degree angle, so when the guard opens the door, the other part closes, and the dude just keeps walking into a door forever. luckily the door has a hole, so i could stun him without getting seen.
the graphics hold up excellent, and the game runs great today, maxxed + sgssaa on a gtx 660 without breaking a sweat. I expected a much worse game, considering the rep it gets, but despite having some scripted and linear sections, it is still a fun splinter cell experience. its not even close to double agent old gen and chaos theory, but I'm having fun.
Only one scene felt out of place and made me facepalm in awe. Spoiler: | |
and yeah, another splinter cell game with crappy widescreen hud stretch. it took them until 2010 to have proper widescreen
