I wonder if the DC will make me like this film more than "I guess it wasn't the worst thing I've ever seen but it's very much meh", but I thought the theatrical was already a good half hour longer than it should have been, so........ Laughing Hm.. I think I will try and see.

Just like people have said this was indeed a very immersive and tense movie. I liked the way it was shot and executed. Recommended. Smile

Doctor Sleep - 5/10

I have a troubled relationship with King, but there are several exceptions where the stars align, the atmosphere delivers the right vibes, and the storytelling manages to hop between genuine intrigue and remarkable characters without turning into a circus of silliness. Not this movie, though Sad Laughing

It's difficult for me to get seriously drawn in by "mystery" involving telepathic superkids, all-seeing-eyed Renton and his magical blackboard, Gypsy-esque mutant folks getting high on dying people's souls-y fumes, all wrapped in frozen berry cake. At least Rebecca Ferguson provided the giggity, *it's something*

Freejack 8/10

I love this film. I've always loved this film, and I will always love this film. It's definitely B-movie scifi goodness with a magnificent cast, a bonkers story, and all the deliberately-hammy acting you could want Very Happy For some people it's "so bad it's good", others it's "just plain bad" but for me it will always be one of my guilty pleasure favourites ^_^

It's a 90'ies B-movie with Mick Jagger. If you can stomach those components and have nothing better to do.. I saw it decades ago and I have no intention of ever watching it again. Sort of like Mark Hamill's sci-fi action movies from 1989 and forward (Slipstream, Guyver, Time Runner).

1917 - 10/10, best movie of 2019. Left me speachless after the screening. I thought there couldn't be a more beautiful war movie than band of brothers.

Why do I waste my time watching stuff like this? Laughing Just a barebones slasher flick with campy acting, no attention to detail and a couple of twists that I saw a mile away. At least it had some good asses on display Wink

Part 3 & 4 are my faves (I was a teen when I first watched them) and the killings become quite brutal and the character of Jason had become the final product with hockey mask and all (he was more of a side character in the first one which I didn't like).

King Arthur: Legend of the sword 8/10

I liked this one, good effects, good cast, straightforward story, I enjoyed the battles ... nice little romp!

And I liked the signature Ritchie touches, like the fast-forward story telling, I found that smart, efficient and powerful.

I don't understand why everyone was hating on this film, is it because of Guy Ritchie? I mean, the worst one can say is that it is a summer action flick that rushes the viewer through the story without fleshing out the world enough. But it is visually stunning and has good action, so it must be at least a mediocre swashbuckling+magic epic fantasy film, for the harshest critics ...

Too bad we won't get a Merlin-based sequel, they were planning to build up characters in a series of movies, culmimating in a team film. But it bombed in the box office, so ... have a new Matrix instead

I am talking about this one from a couple of years ago

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1972591/

The protagonist from Sons of Anarchy is in this, along with Jude Law, Eric Bana and others.

It's a stylized "you wot m8" brit gangster version of the King Arthur mythos. I like his "proper" movies but this one is something I would've joked about as a parody if someone asked me what a fantasy movie by Ritchie would be like, and yet he went and made exactly that. It was one dumb fucking movie

1917 - 8/10: I enjoyed it too, It's a well shot, well paced action thriller, there are a lot of action sequences but it doesn't get monotonous. There's very little commentary here on WW1 or just the pitfalls of war in general. It came off fictional from start to finish for me and I thought it could have been set in many different settings.

IMDB reviews, stating its a deep moving war story, rich with character development and commentary of the perils of war are wrong:

Quote:

10/10 This is hands down one of the greatest war movies to ever hit the silver screen along with being very unique. The hell of the WWI battlefield is a subject that hasn't been covered in a long time and Mr. Mendes executes this perfectly. A movie like this couldn't have been made 50 years ago but with today's advances in film making along with a large studio budget Mr. Mendes takes us through an adventure every bit as harrowing as Saving Private Ryan and Thin Red Line.

I actually didn't know about it until the thread for the new series was made. Thanks to that I watched it and it's a really interesting movie, fascinating and disturbing to what places the human mind can go in situations like that. Also, John Hurt!

He's a more talented director than blomkamp, but it's all same message. So it works.
