Making games, especially in 3d graphics, has always been about smoke and mirrors.
I didn't notice anything in gameplay so who cares how exactly the map is generated?

The maps look fine at ground level. You don't notice any obvious tiling when you are stomping around in them. It's only the top-down minimap that looks weird.
Apart from the whining about travel being too expensive, I pretty much agree with this dude's assessment.
Mercing around the Inner Sphere was fun up until Rep level 10-ish. Then the mind numbing repetition sets in, small annoyances become big ones, etc. Back to Battletech.
I'm planing on using some mods. But even release-day vanilla BT wasn't as bad as this one. Not even close. At least the campaign had some variety in its missions, instead of just using filler missions with some atrocious voiceacting put on top of them.
Both games heavily rely on the user's tolerance for repetitive gameplay. If you prefer games with a strong narrative focus, both will start to grate fairly quickly. Even modded out the ass, Battletech is no different in this regard. If anything, it becomes even worse than the vanilla game, especially with something like RogueTech that adds the entire Inner Sphere map where the whole point of it is endlessly moving around doing the same mission types over and over to grind XP, money, and equipment/mech parts.
I finished this yesterday and indeed it was getting way too repetitive towards the end.
Max reputation level is 15 and sometimes it felt like a chore to get there....all the time I was playing, I was thinking about Mechwarrior 4: Vengeance and the campaign it had.
Defense missions were a pain in the ass and I tried to avoid them as much as I could, but they did offer some diversity to the missions..by being annoying, hate those light mechs just waltzing in the base and wrecking stuff before you even get there.
It was an ok game, but I was hoping for more. Maybe they'll add some dlc missions at a later date to branch the storyline...although I bet those will require more grindy mission to be finished first.
I haven't looked at MW5 since it launched, but I saw this posted over at RPGCodex. Looks like modding has really come along since then. Give it another year and it might be worth diving back in for a second look.

Yeah that's definitely the wisest plan, a tradition by now. When I tried the "1.0" version and enemies just started to magically spawn right in front of me (among the other things) it felt like playing some sort of internal debug pseudobeta thing that was meant to be sent to the QA department but took the Sweeney Access route instead because yee-haw we already got the dough, suckers!
Same with Phoenix Point, hopefully they will both end up being playable/enjoyable in their final-ish ISOdemo form with mods on top of them.

delayed to Spring 2021 cause they are scared of Cyberpunk
Well that and because their shit is almost certainly completely broken. Pity the poor bastards that buy the console version, that is going to be a shit-show for sure.
