Aren't console HDDs some shitty mechanicals? So on consoles these games run fine, but on PC there is not enough throughput?
The derpelopers brains are the ones that don't have enough throughput.

Funnily enough, the PS4's internal HDD is actually a really slow 5400rpm mech that is hamstrung by a SATA2 interface. It's actually faster to connect a USB3 HDD and setup extended, external, storage Games load faster and stream easier, go figure |
Xbox One X has a mechanical HDD also.
And on the top consoles, texture quality is usually comparable to the highest texture settings on PC. There is really no excuse for this crap.

MW5. It's got MW game play but the devs didn't reach the quality expected of a game these days. Voice acting, movie sequences, graphics from 2008 etc. is lacking. Still, it's quite fun (although the Javelin is so weak, I haven't done the third and last(?) mining mission yet).

As the not-so-Epic Sweeneyian tradition dictates, the game gives the impression of being released too early and with still a lot of testing to do. Both the AI and respawning system are especially silly, making encounters feel not authentic and too random in a "gamey" way, so to speak. Also, my rig is obsolete, but the game manages to look even more ancient while being as demanding as a top-tier graphical powerhouse.
The production values are distinctly indie-like, but the core gameplay isn't bad, it just needs to spend more months in the oven with miraclepatches and whatnot (like Phoenix and others). Will that ever happen? Who knows really, the EGSy Access is a strange beast
It's a shame that the old Mechwarrior games are a pain in the arse to run and configure on modern systems, they'd likely still be able to deliver a better experience overall than this one.

The combat and company management keeps me going, but that enemy spawning system needs some serious overhauling. I often see them appearing right on top of my lance, and one time right in front of my view.
I watched a few videos made by a MWO youtuber ('Baradul' or something) before the release, and in there the enemy reinforcements acually arrive on a Leopard, and are dropped off. None of this "Wave 3 destroyed, spawn another lance right on top of them from thin air" nonsense.

@ixigia @zmed
This and Phoenix Point both strongly have the air of incomplete/unfinished development.. which starts to make sense why the developers would take the devil's deal of a year's worth of upfront payment to continue and finalise development. I don't doubt that they're both going to receive substantial, numerous, updates as the year goes on.

The closest I can think of as an analogy, it feels like a remastered version of a 2005-2010 game. A good one, but still kinda dated.

They do that as well, especially in the warzone missions where the entire thing is specifically about holding out against endless waves. But even in those cases they still continue to spawn tanks and choppers/VTOLs out of thin air, usually right behind you.

Fun fact about those enemy Leopard drops: because PGI was super lazy, that's actually your Leopard they are dropping in. Check out the logo on the tail fins. This is also why you can't change your company logo. Another thing that HBS did better.

Get some LRM-20 ST's - they come down in a straight line instead of all scattered to hell - actually makes em' useful.

love this 'map generator' right out of the 80s lol
they ought to hire someone who is actually familiar with generating heightmaps and terrain features. tiles are an .. interesting choice in 2019.

You can also get an Artemis IV version of those, which will cluster your shots even tighter.

I'd say using tiles is miles ahead of using truly random terrain. In the right hands it can look and feel truly natural. However, that also means you need more than 3 tiles to make a 4x6 tiles sized map.
As I said, this whole game feels like an old WinXP era classic that got a remastered release.
