Edit: So I finished the campaign. Pretty much the whole way through after every cutscene I was like:

his granddaughters despise the engineer who is analyzing the data
your prison's CO runs away, but air force wants you back
everyone dies as they see your new 3 stripes tail logo
but big bird carriers uses shield, powered by the space elevator
chick meets princess
chick and princess go in space elevator and kill the power
2 prototype drones with old ace's software have a hardon for you
you kill them, before they use the space elevator as an antenna to broadcast denuvo to the other drones
... and you boned neither the princess nor the chick
Since the aerial gaming market is populated by a series of floating tumbleweeds these days I decided to give the Acemen a whirl out of curiosity and completed all the 20 missions. As far as arcade games go, it was..surprisingly engaging, more than I thought
The flying model is utterly simplistic even on expert (well, "expert" - not too dissimilar from how BF3&4's jets handle) but the pew pew actually doesn't come off as too brainless or insulting. The missions (all timed) offer a pretty good range of variety (even some challenge), they require to adopt different basic strategies with the upgrades, weapons and selected aircrafts since each scenario has its own approach with moments of scripted twists and hostile circumstances surrounded by the pompous soundtrack and absurd dialogues.
The cutscenes between the missions are made of stagy cheese, though the in-game narrative events make up for it in a hectic manner. It's not by any means a visually impressive game (low-res textures, basic lighting, etc.) but the presentation is adequate with a solid performance as well, and while the m&kb implementation is so-so the actual controls thankfully work fine. I'm glad that so many Japanese franchises are finally on PC, not all of them are my cup of tea of course but this one was enjoyable. [missile!]x7 time-wasting omnidirectional isolaser/10
