nice to see a patch.

Just started playing today. cleared the first two levels. playing in 4x DSR with 4xAA on top. I'm using the classic view distance as i've found it affects gameplay a lot.

Pretty fun old school FPS. quick movement, lots of exploration, secrets, and challenging platforming.

Kaiser will begin work on Turok 2 next month and he believes he will have it ready for release at some point within 2016.

He will do Turok 3 only if he is given the source code because he can't be bothered spending another 4+++ years reverse engineering that game from scratch too.

Completed it as well just now. first time ever. I did play it on the n64 at my cousin's place as a kid, but never got past lvl1.

It is dated, but still very enjoyable. feels like an evolutionary link between the doom and quake era's.

Biggest complaint is the lack of difficulty, even with vanilla fog distances.

Enemies just don't do enough damage/or their projectiles are too slow, and there's a billion items everywhere.

But still, it did give me a fix for the early 3d era graphics games that always bring me back to childhood days. Nice smooth movement system, cool guns and environments, and very complex level exploration.

i think turok maps would be good for those 1990's vs 2015 map design pics Laughing

 Spoiler:

that's not even half the level discovered.

i was only a bit lost on that level 5, that I screenshotted.

these are not that complex, but for an FPS, and in comparison with today's fps's, they are.

I only got lost because a climbable wall is really hard to spot at 4k with these low res graphics. Laughing

Only when standing very close to the wall was I able to see the tiny bumps in the wall that mean climbing.

Other than that, it's less complex than key hunt fps's because here you only open portals with keys, but in actual levels, there's maybe 5 at most, "button press, unlock of screen door" events, the rest is just walking down path's and canceling out dead ends until you find the right path.

If You say so...
There is a difference between open and complex level design and clusterfuck maze with teleports and searching for 10 keys like an idiot.

Turok is not the worst case of this but comes close. What saved it was graphics, dinosaurs and just good shooting for its time.

Besides, I really hate the recent trend in which everything has to be huge complex open world. I can't be the only one to prefer more linear approach and storytelling ?

Well good for you then because we are swarming in interactive story games like the Telltale games, Life is strange, Blues and Bullets and a lot of others.

im not a fan of the open world shit either (besides gta, but thats different and always was). never finished madmax or mgs for example. and tbh i dont think i ever will, i just dont like it

but turok was no maze stuff either, it was just classic shooter design which looked like a semi open world (due to the hub), but in its core it was just like doom. run through levels, shoot, and search for keys, but in this case the keys dont open doors inside one level but are needed to open the portals to the old levels. and everything is placed easy to find for someone (like me, and many other people around here) who still knows how stuff worked in the good old days. havent played turok since over 15 years and still no problem to find all keys / weapons / secrets etc fast (and no its not a game like dunno monkey island which i have played a houndred times ). if cant get used to that cod has derped you hard and you should cry in the shower for a few hours

Haha yeah, I agree with everything you said, but sadly this is exactly what put me off after some hours. I like everything about the game, though somehow I remembered being it..harder Razz (then again, I was only 12 when I played it the first time, a young derp padawan xD)

The huge hitboxes don't help, however setting the Projectile collision to precise like Consolitis mentioned is an improvement, since (from the dev himself) it enables the collision detection against the actual models rather than default collision walls. Still, there's no medicine for the AI or huge amount of ammos and goodies available. *shakes the dinofist*

Maybe I was going to hard on Turok(its still a great classic) but i am not talking about adventure point n click games. Those are different category.
We just dont have much single player linear games like half life2, timeshift, binary domain etc. I still grief that new mgs went with that horrible open world...

A small heads-up about the Turok 2 remaster:

Quote:
So as many of you may have guessed, working on the rights to these classic titles can be tricky and sometimes contractual obligations prevents the transparency we've enjoyed on some of our other titles which is why updates have been mysteriously absent.

We're well aware of the demand for Turok 2 and it is still in development...in fact we started development just shortly after the launch of the first Turok. Turok 2 is a bigger game, more enemies, more weapons, more locations and most importantly...Turok 2 had Multiplayer.

In our quest to bring you the most authentic experience at the highest quality level available we've decided to give Turok 2 the love it deserves and release the game "when it's done" which is why all we've been able to say is this:

Turok 2 is coming!
