Yeah, its very bad. Also the animations are pretty hopeless, often they just freeze for a second and continue. Ah well, it brings back memories at least, looks pretty solid for the rest though, although I haven't done much besides the first 5 tutorials.

Runs like garbage here though.

Are you running it on a Rasperry Pi? Laughing
Else i can't imagine how someone can say that the performance is garbage.

12.2 GB is just the .SLP files. The magic of HD 2d drawings instead of 3D models. I think every frame of animation is a separate .bmp .

My rusty old GPU (7850) is really struggling on 1440p, or at least something is Razz

Dear god which baboon coded the pathfinding in this game, I don't think I've ever encountered a game with such a horrible one. People getting stuck constantly, or walking half the map across to get where they are suppose to be Sad

Yea, i don't remember it being that bad back then.
Well, at least M$ is able to make a remake worse than the original gameplay wise. Laughing

That and the hardcore AI are the reason i probably won't play this again.

It's not so bad. I mean, who doesn't like getting their Stone Age baboons getting destroyed by an Iron Age civilisation 5 minutes after the map starts. Stop crying.

It's better to wait for the steam release. AOE: DE on the ms is a mess.

Sorry to resurrect the topic but i've got a couple of questions regarding the same topic, eh.. Note that i don't own AOEDE since i've heard the STEAM news

1. Knowing that AOEDE might be coming to STEAM this month (or whenever?), do you guys think they'll put up the latest release?..And if so, did they fixed the bad AI i've been hearing about?

2. Does AOE2HD (NOT the DE) got their AI fixed too?..

I was planning on playing these as i'm getting bored the hell out but if i have to play with bad AI...Dunno...

1. AOE: DE has imrpoved AI, but don't expect miracles. Mainly pathfinding and other mostly minor stuff.

2. Not really. If you want to play with imrpoved AI on AOE2HD google barbarian AI for AOE. You'll have to install an additional patch, but it's vastly imrpoved AI compared to vanilla.

Never played the original AOE DE but i can already see a few errors

Zoom: If Zoom Detail is up to x4, you can see people better on max settings/zoom, but Zoom out gets more limited...

Right click: Click n hold n drag RMB to move around the sceneario using the big map (NOT the mini map).. HOWEVER, if you LMB something/one then try the RMB method YOU WONT BE ABLE TO MOVE OUT THE CAMERA.. And releasing the click does "nothing" to the unit/etc if ya moved while dragging it..

PATH: Yep, what i've heard is true and so is bugged out in the STEAM version.. 2 civilians carrying food stucked at the home base, without moving, holding the food still, takes a few secs for them to react , drop and move on

"Way to remake the game", M$....Glad i didn't bought it but i'll see how much i'll last with this cracked version...

Played for a few hours the steam version of DE. The old problems continue to be present. They attempted to fix the pathing issues a bit, but for the most part is almost the same as it was in the OG game. They reworked the campaign and some of the missions are better now. Added narration, better sfx, improved graphics, improved UI. It's the same old game with a facelift.

Was it this game or the second one ... there was an AoE game I had installed when I was a kid and it annoyed me so much with its pathfinding I just gave it up and uninstalled it. I remember one single enemy scout dragging half my army across the map while I was looking elsewhere.

I was using the (pirated) CD as a coaster while playing hours and hours of Starcraft and Red Alert, I ain't even kidding.

Yeah, that's AOE1. AOE2 for the most part was and is solid, and that's why it still has a competitive scene 20 years later.

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

I really liked this one as it was the only AOE game that i've ever completed back then, minus the expansions and i barely had any rage on it i think

...Hopefully this one kicks more ass

Some games are looking really good under this revitalizing operation.
