Reboot 1: was for some reason well received despite not being anything like original tomb raider games. I guess stock cover based shooter is always a fairly popular genre. Personally i do miss the survival aspect / limited resources, puzzles, skill based movement (all of which i feel could be modernized and improved). That said I actually clocked this game, it wasn't tomb raider nor a masterpiece but still found it enjoyable enough to make it through to the end.
Reboot 2: copy and pasted 1 because why take any risks whatsoever, hype + anyone that liked reboot 1 will likely buy it.
Reboot 3: wtf?! copy and paste 1 again?, now they taking the piss. They figured derps will probably buy it if its just the same shit over again. They would have done this knowing full well they would get mixed review.
They'd need to change it up a fair bit to interest me in the next game, Perhaps a more survival orientated game where Lara is trapped in a tomb with just the goals of escape > anything but Rambo6 plz.
Wondering what the chances are of cpy/codex cracking the rtx update. Donโt really feel like buying just to see the tech in action ( no interest in the actual game) due to rtx/dlss support post launch sigh

Well Jonah's probably way the hell away from wherever Lara is probably recouping from Lara destroying much of Southern America during their last adventure.
Leaving who? The butler I guess but he's in the freezer were Lara left him before she set off.
Nice to see this wrapped up, thought it would be mid-May but it's probably been long enough and it's time for it to end and for the sequel work to begin. Light of the Tomb Raider.
After finishing and deleting(I am free!) Sekiro I wanted to play something more traditional. Sottr was sitting in my backlog so why not. atmospheric single player, story games are always my favorite and we never get this type of stuff anymore. We only had Metro Exodus, Sekiro And Resident Evil 2 this year so far (So probably already better than last year).
Sekiro was the first game I played with rtx2070 and 4k monitor and it was already mighty impressive but... holy fuck. I was under the impression that this New Tomb Raider is some medicore crap but I am playing it with my jaw on the floor!
I've only played up to the

and it is fantastic so far. 1st game was ok, Rise was better and this one easily rivals Uncharted 4 when it comes to presentation and overcomes it with technical features. Maxed/ultra out (with bts ao instead of hbao), it runs about 40fps at 2160p. And about 50-60 with 1800p so it fits perfectly fine within 40-60fpsfreesync range of my monitor.
The game looks just incredible. Graphics look so good, I am spending a lot of time in photo mode and just looking around everything with nose up to the monitor. I am kinda baffled why I am not hearing more praise towards at least graphics of the game. You can clearly see that the game was developed with 4k assets. Texture detail, shadows, lighting, facial animation. I am having a nerdgasm here
As for the game itself - It is the Tomb Raider reboot linear metroidvania formula so far, so it's like Uncharted game but better playing. Sure it's not Sekiro excellence of gameplay but I do not want every game to be super extremely difficult. I want experiences like this too. The characters are realized very well so far and I like the more serious/darker theme.
All in all - I am surprised so far. Unless it gets downhill from here, it should be a great game or at least an eyes masturbation
edit: finished it - it was pretty terrible all around after that beginning

the dlcs are a nice pack with interesting tombs but should have been included in the main game since there are only a few side missions so looks clearly cut and not worth the extra money lol

some developers do make a full game first then add the dlcs as extra content, but this game has 2 hub cityes that are kinda empty in vanilla but after these dlcs now it feels like more complete
The classic Tomb Raider titles truly are timeless masterpieces, they're for me in the same ballpark as Gothic, Deus Ex, Morrowind, Thief and so on when it comes to defining formulas. With such well-crafted levels, rewarding 100% handholding-free exploration and puzzles, all surrounded by the dripping atmosphere and sapient mix of environmental sounds + contextual music, the "dated" visuals and controls don't matter since the immersion factor is always instantaneous.
Being a teenage gamer in the 90s/early 2000s was special. It was also a burden, since one's perspective and expectations were altered in a permanent way, making any attempt at playing current tripe-A cineproductions served on a silver plate such as Tomb Ramboot and sequels without feeling personally insulted a mission impossible.
Even though Lara is as good as dead, we could see a glimpse of how a modern Tomb Raider that will never have should be thanks to the Dagger Of Xian remake:
Goddamn it that fan project looks amazing, yep no new tombraider game for a long long time. The ramboots are PS4 Uncharted with a diffferent model / skin for the player character.. just not tombraider games.
The Dagger of Xian remake is out, it just isn't a remake of the complete game, nor was it ever intended to be since there's so much that one guy can do. That's not to say that he might not do more, but what he set out to do is done and out. It feels amazing having the classic control over Lara's movement while seeing the game look that good. It makes me super sad that that is not where the series is now tho.
