Yeah, it's the same old banter with anti-Intel sentiments. The David vs Goliath syndrome in the world of CPU's, always betting for the underdog and savoring the times when the big "bad" wolf is hit with something like this.

Hmm that 3900x looks tasty, probably my next platform. So silly how they’re owning intel yet their gpu division cant offer highend products to compete with nvidia.

Yeah. But AMD doesn't have the enormous GPU R&D-budget that Nvidia has (not even close) and can't get the best people and huge teams to catch up. It's sad and it hurts the competition leading to super-expensive graphics cards that cost an arm and a leg compared to the late 90'ies and early 2000's when price/performance was king. Now it's neither. If you want the best you have to shell out between €1200 to €1700 for a 2080Ti. It's ridiculous beyond belief. And it's because AMD can't compete with Nvidia on the high end. What made ATI (and during this period was bought up by AMD) great was that they were fairly competitive between 2000 and 2015.

Lately we've seen how Intel and Nvidia have headhunted and stolen top people from AMD which will only make things more dire. I see a future where Nvidia continue to dominate in an almost monopoly-style corporate bullshit market leader where they can set any price they want for their GPU's. "It just works". Sad

Its a tiny bit under expectations regarding speeds but except from that its more or less where it should be. Competitive at a good price.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Lets see will there be actual IPC improvement compared to Intel.

Too bad the rumors on the 3800x being 5ghz didn't end being true. But still that will the one I'll be most likely aiming for. Let see after first real benchmarks

Not sure why anyone would skip this platform and considers intel as option, that 12 core / 24 thread CPU is over half of the price cheaper than similar Intel CPU (i9-9920X), Intel needs now desperate measures, as they are already doing, they are releasing "overclocked to the max" 9900K model with all cores @ 5Ghz, so they can win in excel sheets with couple %.

Dat ’benchmark’ I Am Disappoint

Actual IPC preformance is the one I’m interested in the most. If that’s even ’good enough’ I might upgrade my 7700K to 3900X.

even then 3900X could have lesser single thread performance than 7700K if it's IPC is too inferior

This.

My goal is to upgrade my CPU mostly for gaming. That's why IPC is all that matters regardless of 'countless' cores. Also those 1-10 FPS differences are just not worth the hassle not to speak wasted money.

I love doing some render stuff in my free time and higher CPU Power is definitely welcome Very Happy Now I just have to decide if I'll take a big bunch of money and buy a Ryzen 3000 or if I'll wait til the launch and buy a cheap 2700x.

Though GPU rendering seems to make great improvements but Blender 2.8 is just crashing quickly when I use the GPU to render in real time. Also I'm totally used to cinema4d but that's ProRenderer produced shitty results and was super slow. Maybe my scenes are just built in a crappy way.

Of course they did but that's not what's important here. It shows that single-thread IPC has increased to Intel's level which is nearly a miracle after all this time. AMD did good.

Not betting on AMD until the chips are released and they've been benched properly including overclocking performance (if there's any headroom for O/C'ing to begin with).

yep, we will see whats the real deal is in about 4-5 weeks. IF the 3700x (which is marketed as 65W TDP CPU) is very ocable and not artificially handicapped (maybe by the boards) it would be a steal for the announced 329usd (and would make the 3800x obsolete, only 100mhz more in Turbo, Baseclock isnt that important, which is presented with 105w tdp)

stock market hasnt budged either, would have expected their shareprice to climb by now, guess everyone waiting game mode.

was there any details about improvements to igpu ? with so many cores, there must be a way to use unused cores/threads for gfx/phsysix instead Sad

That's not how it works Pickup. CPU-cores are specially tailored for CPU functions while GPU-cores are tailored for GPU tasks and the difference between CPU cores and GPU cores is the reason we're not running our computers with GPU cores (they're not good at general computing tasks).

I couldn't wait any more for AMD so I got a 9900k for £200, a friend of mine had one for sale and I thought at the price its a steal, obviously I had to buy a mobo so went for a GB Z390 Master, over clocked it to 5GHz with ease.

Waiting for the 3700x or 3800x too but if someone offered me a 9900k for 200 quid I wouldnt hesitate for a second either
