Thanks for the heads up! I played chapter one a couple of years ago and it was quite impressive indeed in terms of map variety, complexity and amount of details (one of the sexiest uses of the GZDoom engine ). Will definitely grab the new standalone version one of these days.
You can tell that the creators spent a lot of time making this, capturing what Wolfenstein traditionally is all about: pure undiluted rampage against nazis without too much cine-melodrama (looking at you Colossus )
Anyone else having framerate issues with this game? When I first boot up it'll be fine, 110fps+. But after a while, maybe 5 minutes or so it becomes completely unstable and drop to the 40's or 50's. Like it just gets bogged down. Sometimes I can fix it by changing the graphics preset one level down, applying and then setting it back again. Sometimes I have to reboot the game to resolve it.
Wolfenstein: TNC was a bad game even if you ignore the forced sjw ideology everyone had their pitchforks for. Even if you cut that shit away the game is inferior to it's predecessor. It looks like they had a meeting and decided to mess around with everything that made The New Order great. Chop the fuck out of it, add the WOKE sticker and call it a day.
That scen was clearly a referens to wolfenstein 3D, and it was an awesome moment.
Let's see :
1. Gloryfing communism and somehow accepting it as a good thing for the world/nation even though national socialism is just the other side of the same coin?
2. A black woman that's racist to the fucking bone and nauseating with her "white people must die" crap.
3. The laughably stereotypical father of BJ that just doesn't make sense. He seems worse than ol' Adolf himself
4. So very plausible that the wife of said stereotypical "white supremacist" (lol) father is jewish. I mean - who would have thought and who the fuck wrote that shit
There are a lot of lesser things. For example - notice when playing how many times its "nazis" and not germans (there are some "germans" mainly in documents found in the game. I see it a lot nowadays - calling them nazis makes them aliens from outer space who landed in Germany. The game caters to those delusional people that nowadays call people they disagree with "nazis" and then call it a day. Wolfenstein NC "story" is just a big fat virtue signaling game for all those sick people. So they can see what a nazi is in the game - everyone else!
The sob story of Engels daughter that is a fat woman who eats too many doughnuts. Gimme a break.
Wolfenstein NO was also a kind of a unrealistic superhero shooter game but the story and lack of wokeness made it a good game. Same with Old Blood. NO also had some polish accents which for me personally made it cooler.
3. The laughably stereotypical father of BJ that just doesn't make sense. He seems worse than ol' Adolf himself
That's something I found a bit funny too, Adolf before senile here in New Colossus was approving of several other foreign cultures and minorities whereas BJ Senior just is some I Hate Everyone caricature and bad father and terrible husband and bad boss all rolled into some Bad Dad of the forever all in one.
EDIT: That said they did change things up a bit in Wolfenstein and I guess we have no idea how these other regions and territories are doing, Asia, Russia and then there's some resistance war in Africa but that was not brought up much more at all beyond some slight references.
(Might be missing or forgetting some document or paper clips come to think of it. Hitler might have been a zombie or something in Old Blood so it changes as well though and might not be entirely reliable for whatever the narrative is being changed into.)
And as for the rest well the writing felt a bit forced and the gunplay and level design a bit weaker than the prior games though we'll see, I have only some info on Youngblood but it seems to continue the trend though we'll know more when Bethesda and Machine Games start providing more media and other info I guess.
Seems the districts and stuff makes a return though from what I read.
EDIT: Well Rip's a entirely fictional video game character and the developers had absolutely no subtlety at all in how they portray him and even had a literal shoot the dog moment just to hammer it into players that he's bad heh.
New World Order and Old Blood had their moments though and I guess New Colossus does too although I preferred the prior games personally.
Well said, sir
I also thought that Adolf's portrayal (that scene with the movie casting was quite hilarious) was strange when looking at Rip (who is RIP fortunately).
Also earlier in the game when i saw Grace the first time, after climbing the long ladder in the elevator shaft and heard hear say "white boy" i knew it's the beginning of the end. It's kind of a new trope nowadays - the big bad white boys everywhere. Before the game release i saw the communist preacher but in the same scene BJ also says he doesnt give a flying fuck about ideology (not sure if it was exactly what he said) but he must be stupid not to react when hearing everybody around him raving about the revolution (communist revolutions didn't turn out really god, have they?).
As for the gameplay - killing the commanders was just a stupid waste of time. Level design overall was poor - i think i enjoyed the courtroom fight the most even though it made no sense. NWO was the first new Wolf and was quite something then maybe because there weren't too many games like that then (except for Doom around that time). And Old Blood had quite a lot of the old Wolfenstein's (and the newer RCTW) atmosphere, silly gothic fun.
Does anybody know how to get rid of the head bobbing in this game with the yarr version? There is a newcolossustweaker mod that should do exactly this but alas it doesnt work for me :/
Just finished the game, first thing I have to say, I consider myself as part of the anti-woke group of people (the predominantly rational ones, not the ones that see a conspiracy at every turn and use it to vent out their prejudiced characters), but reading all the drama posted here in the last few pages back when it was released sure, we have the Grace character being annoying at some points of the story, but other than that the SJW aspect (if any) was kept pretty much at bay. And about some people saying that the game glorifies communism, I guess they chose to skip one of the best cutscenes in the game where Blazkowicz talked some sense into this clearly extreme-left leaning 'Horton' character while putting him in his place. Anyway, (IMO) woke-wise this game is pretty tame compared to the disgraceful series of titles we've seen released recently.
Now, focusing on what really matters, even though I enjoyed the ride, the game was clearly not as good as The New Order, especially in the level design and combat/boss fight design departments, and this was even more noticeable towards the last couple of main story missions. I enjoyed the explorable submarine and all the little details scattered around but that's just a little nice addition that doesn't make up for the fundamental flaws I previously mentioned.
I wonder if they made enough money out of this sequel as to justify producing a third and final installment where we get to fight Mecha-Hitler I loved the long, hilarious cutscene where they introduced him.
