NISA Announce The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III for NA/EU
https://twitter.com/NISAmerica/status/1085899542262894593
Preparing this thread in advance, so I apologize as official PR is added as it comes in. I was told in advance along with a few pieces of info, during a visit to NISA HQ on Tuesday.
Localization: "a [big part of our panel] will be about who's returning - specifically, who we've recruited to help us contextualize, translate, and localize the title" NISA bringing on talent with experience on the series, naming names during their panel on Friday.
Crossbell: "part of a longer discussion" with Falcom.
Platforms: Only PS4 was mentioned during my visit.
|
EDIT: Hmm PS4 exclusive so far huh.

When it seems as if peace has finally settled over the empire of Erebonia, the embers of war stir anew just a mere year-and-a-half later in The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III coming exclusively to PlayStation®4 in Fall 2019!
This installment welcomes the return of certain English localization staff that have worked on previous titles in the series. Catch the excitement in the blood-pumping Announcement Trailer, and learn more about the heart we're pouring into this next chapter at our PAX South panel "JPN → USA : Danganronpa, Touhou, and Beyond" on January 18, 2019 at 11:00 AM CST, or watch it here!
Meet a new Class VII led by the "Ashen Chevalier" Rean Schwarzer, now a newly minted instructor at Thors Branch Campus. The epic story continues as the cast travels the Empire's recently acquired lands, only to find themselves ensnared in a devious plot that could plunge them into another war, or an even bigger calamity. New features, such as the "Break System," bring greater possibilities to combat, while familiar faces of friend and foe make their appearance!
The bonds shared between the new and old Class VII will be tested... Will this be the beginning of the end? See what fate holds for all in The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III for PlayStation®4 in Fall 2019!
|
EDIT: Hmm Trials of Cold Steel, well it's nice to see the typos starting already ha ha.
Unless they actually changed it but eh we'll see.

Of course it will but it's pretty pointless without the crossbell games anyway since it refers to them a lot.

oh yeah and if they try to feed you a "but we got the old loc team to help!" excuse, what i've heard is that they TECHNICALLY did, but it's very much a too-little-too-late scenario, so expect the base translation (esp the main story) to be undermined by danganronpa-quality mistls
|
Sweet, off to a great start I see. Well we'll know what state the PS4 version is in when it launches and from work on Disgaea 5 and Ys8 and how quickly those seem to have been dropped we already know how the PC port is going to end up heh unfortunately but well things can change.
Then again it's NISA so expectations are a bit ~ so well we'll see how this ends up.

Hands down the most epic game series ever created. Action, mystery, politics, intrigue in spades. I truly recommend it to anyone who have patience for it. Dont be tricked by the first game which seems like a very vanilla jrpg experience. The series evolves and becomes a magificent interconnected saga which i've never seen the likes of. Everything seems planned from the beginning, which makes late reveals from questions early in the saga feel very rewarding.
I will though say that trails of cold steel have a weak protagonist, but looking past that snd the persona like social system, its very epic indeed.

Yeah Cold Steel is pretty great as far as modern Kiseki goes but it doesn't really hold a candle compared to Zero/Ao which are hands down the best games in the whole franchise or even FC/SC.
Fan translation of Zero should be out any day now if Geofront finally get their shit together and Ao allrdy has a patch with Flames edit which is pretty good.

Zero and ao were pretty damn great. I would recommend starting from the beginning though. Its just too good to pass up, and things woll make more sense.

It's funny how usually there's a team behind ports, but now it's just fucking Durante, the guy is a machine. I remember how after DSfix every time there was a jap game with a shitty port the people called for Durante, and more often than not he actually fixed the ports within days. :flower:

They simply can't use the existing ports without licensing them from Xseed/NISA/Durante's company and this is pretty complicated since they are all third party's licensing from Falcom.
For Xseed/Nisa there is nothing in a deal like that and the Chinese company is probably not interested anyway since labor is so cheap and licensing existing ports would cost way more for them then paying a few ppl there to build new ones.
Also the ports are by far the least problem with these games, localization itself is the biggest hurdle since they all have gigantic complicated scripts.

Oh I was under the impression Falcom was notorious for being very strict and having ownership and final say on these things but I suppose it wouldn't quite apply to everything and depending on what deals are made there might be some restrictions or changes though it's probably also down to monetary reasons as well and perhaps overall reputation and business relationships.
But yeah the script size itself is something like a few novel sized books in length per game since not only is the main story pretty dialogue heavy all the NPC's constantly change up their responses after just about every major event and even with earlier areas no longer accessible that's still a lot of characters and resulting text to cover.
Still only partway through the entire story too as I remember with this closing the Erebonia arc and there's some 40% left of just the map that's not been explored and whatever many titles they intend to try and make for the entire Trails storyline and possibly some spin-offs and remakes of the older titles.
(Even more dedicated fans would probably have some trouble with how this has spanned over a decade already and is still connected into the earlier games for some events.)
