So reading that forum, basically Wardell just aquired the name Star Control and absolutely nothing else. Then procedeed to make a game thinking he would get a license. I mean, he lost in court.
Anyway, Wardell is an idiot of monstrous proportions. I've had interactions with him on their own forum during the Ashes of the Singularity developent. He is so breathtakingly stupid ive wanted in more than one instance to somehow reach through the monitor and bitchslap him upside the head. He just seems like and all around cretin, in every way possible. I cant say i'm sad hes getting ownd

they got IP and Assets from Atari which now owns Accolade whohired the two guys to created it as contractors. See Star Control 3 which was created by someone else because they were not interested.
Its definitely not that simple .... in the end its all about pride, egos and spitegame on both sides for the marketing wordings and messy treadmarks/copyrights

So far Pro-Stardock Argument list:
- P&F should have kickstarted their own game and given all their IP and royalties up. Both stupid & Irrelevant.
- P&F should have made a sequel in the last 20 yrs, I didn't get my game so they are cunts.
|
Nor stupid nor irrelevant - it shows they have no intention to make a game of their own despite their empty promises. It shows ill will towards their fans when they just lie to their faces. Their "announcement" of a sequel was just being spiteful.
And they're not being cunts for not having made a sequel, they're cunts for constantly over the past 20 years saying they WANT to make a sequel but never doing so even when the opportunity turns up - crowdfunding clearly was a viable option but they prefer to use it to fight legal battles which is another slap in the face of fans. Only an utter moron would not see the issue here. Frankly, I'm tired of them crying wolf and going "Well we WANT to make a sequel, but no-one wants to fund us" when that's utterly bullshit.

- They didn't create the original games. lmfao let's see how that argument holds up in court. |
That certainly wasn't said by me - but they didn't create Star Control 3 which DID use all the same races and names. Funny thing is: TfB kept bitching afterwards how they had wished they had made it and were not happy with the result. Sounds like SC:O to me except Stardock wanted them on-board and they were the ones to refuse.

- DMCA takedown of a game currently tied into a multi-million dollar copyright lawsuit which has also been reviewed through the judicial system and recognized as a valid request, DMCA is evil no matter what P&F are cunts. |
DMCA is a tool for companies who only discover copyright infringements AFTER they have appeared on the market. It's NOT for cunts like TfB who got asked to join the project, refused, then waited for it to go on sale and THEN slap it with DMCA. That's DMCA abuse and again only a moron would not see that.

- Ignore Stardock attempt trick UQM administrators to hand over full control of their site.

- Ignore Stardock deleting any opinion in any forum they have control of that doesn't fit with their narrative. |
Yeah, both were being cunts here. Stardock tried to approach them to work together, they repeatedly refused so Stardock tried to take the IP by a dickish way as well. But TfB still don't get off scott free here - once again they had a chance to make a sequel and they didn't.
But, most of this is Stardock trying to establish a kind of control over the IP -

Ignore DLC that has been cancelled and never heard of again - what a hard task to do *rolls eyes* They retracted it for a reason so it's not an infringement. And for the Star Wars and Star Trek thing: proof please since this is the first I heard about it. Unless you're being so daft to include user-made Workshop stuff but that would be ridiculous.

Accolade releases Star Control III, developed by Legend Entertainment.

As in they had to meet with P&F to ask for a license for some IP to spruce up a game that was poorly recieved. Also pay them royalties for the new work.

all these 2 ever was remastered and remixed soundtrack and wallpaper , all licensed/recreated by OG artist ands its not happening anyway, but shure this on level of Jedi in Star Trek

Either way shows intent, its a far cry from Brad "states that Stardock wouldn’t use any of the lore or races from Star Control & Star Control II without their permission".

ya dude that's irrelevant, how is your need for them to make you a game have anything to do with the legal merits of this case? Anyway we starting to super-derail now. However please do post any official news as it comes out for interest.

I read through a little bit:
So they are designers and not, the creators because the product was not crated only by them, but a team of people, the artwork, the alien races and ship designs. And the game production was commissioned and payed for by Acollade.
Stardock has the trademark on the games, so only they can sell anything Star control related including alien races, designers were offered many times to buy the tm but refused, and then announced new game, they don't have tm for, just to damage the sale of Origins.
The law suit is only about tm rights, which designers never had but want for free.

Holy frog, that looks like a Syndicate-based sequel/prequel if I've ever seen one. Reviews are mixed (but a lot of the complaints are about the point-and-click system which the originals had so...). Might check it out since I loved Syndicate on the Amiga and Syndicate 2 on the PC (never finished either of them, they were simply too hard at times for me).

If that isn't a total ripoff of Ghosts'n'Goblins my nick isn't Frant. It's even using the same sounds for the music as the original arcade from 1985. Looks somewhat dull and boring in comparison to the original arcade (which I loved and finished once (not on the arcade but in MAME, otherwise it would've cost me a fortune as a kid)). One if not my biggest favorite arcade game that I spent a lot of coins on (Gauntlet, Bomb Jack etc. also stole a lot of my sparse money in those days).

Regarding Star Control: Origins, is it a good/fun game?
