At first I thought this season was slowly getting better but after the last 2 episodes I realized it was not the case. Wtf Caligula  is doing in this show? Ivar is so annoying now

Watch only the first 3 seasons 
If you decide to watch s04 (20 episodes) you'll clearly see a decline in quality (writing and pacing). However, I suppose, s04 is somewhat good, just not as good as the previous seasons. + This season seals the fate of Ragnar, so I think you should still watch it despite its flaws.
Avoid s05, s06

Just look the first 4 seasons.
There are epic!!
The 5 at first was a setback but in the second circle (5b) is going a little better and maybe it can be even better as it progresses!

Totally agreed. Anything after that was pretty shitty, just a short glimpse at the historical feud between his sons would have been enough for closure.
Or make it a standalone follow-up series, I don't know.

The guy hated the gig, he even said it in interviews. And I think his bad acting, especially in this latest episode was yet another sign of that. Plus they kinda went with history.

Alfred is the son of Æthelwulf in the series. Sort of - actually he's the son of Athelstan and Judith. His brother is Aethelred. And Æthelwulf does not have a brother in the series
