Until next year when he announces he is returning to Epic. Whatever his talents may be, management clearly isn't one of them. Stick him back in a design position where he can let someone that knows what they are doing handle the day to day running of the business.
Titanfall 2 is a very good game, that shit launch wrecked it.
Titanfall 2 was a mediocre game and sales / reviews reflected it.
If a game is fun, marketing isn't going to 'wreck' it, which is why games that come out of nowhere (like Minecraft, DayZ for ARMA2) pick up so much momentum regardless of how much pre-launch marketing they have (including when they have none whatsoever).
It was on sale for $5 not long after release and yet it still picked up no momentum. It was also when I purchased it. I couldn't figure out for the life of me what was supposed to make it so special. It's average at best.
the titans, the movement, the feeling of old competitive shooters like ut2k4. this made it special for me.
titanfall 1 was great, but sadly it was really wrecked from the beginning because of shitty marketing. also it is from ea, so many people don't even try it.
and it was exactly the same for titanfall 2 and even tho i had fun with it, i didn't bought it just because i knew it will flop just like titanfall 1 and that is not because it's a bad or mediocre game.
I enjoyed the story and most of its characters, but the gameplay was boring. 4/5 games with the exact same gameplay. Sometimes that is a good thing, not in this case though

For a guy with such an ego it'll be hard for him to stay away for good.
Unless he's rich enough not to have to work, he'll be back for sure.
He is rich for sure, but whether he manages well his money to live off all the bonuses he received at Epic for the next 40 years, who knows.
In any case, it will take him all of 2 seconds to find a job at a high profile dev studio, should he want to un-retire.
