GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Prices are climbing

If you have been on the lookout for a new GeForce RTX 2080 graphics card, you are probably doing what most others are doing, checking GTX 1080 and 1080 Ti prices first as a viable more affordable alternative.

Up to a week or so ago, the GeForce GTX 1080 and 1080 Ti actually where exactly that, a viable alternative. However, if we focus on the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti for a second, you'll notice that prices everywhere are slowly going upwards. Some models with rather big steps. Especially in the USA, the prices hikes are noticeable. That can indicate one or two things, demand has picked up extremely for some reason (like last years mining craze), that or the Ti went EOL (end of life) and the stock is slowly drying out. Chatter on the web right now is that indeed the cards are not fabbed any longer, and that will drive prices upwards, and that would drive people towards the RTX series.

Here in the EU the price dropped significantly over the summer, and while I can still see places where you can buy them at 740 EUR, the price trend is upwards now as well. Below an example of the 1080 TI Strix, during summer it dropped towards 800 EUR, and ever since November, you can see the price climb upwards again. If you have planned a 1080 Ti, you better do so now while they're in stock.

The mere fact that sales of high-end Pascal cards increased a LOT after the RTX-launch says a lot about the pointlessness of the RTX series (esp. the 2080) and weird time to launch a new generation just a quarter before they're supposedly presenting their new next-gen on 7nm (don't know if it's just a shrink of the Turing or if there are some changes/differences). The GPU is HUGE and I doubt the die yields are particularly good. I suspect we'll see Turing v2 in spring/summer on 7nm.

RTX 2080 for a 746€ is not that bad deal imho. 850€ on the other hand is a ”fuck off” deal though.

I wonder how long the 1070 ti will remain at its current price point. I checked Amazon and prices dropped a little more since I bought mine - €460 for the one I bought or €380 without VAT. The 1070 Ti seems to be the best bang for buck if 1080 Ti prices go up.

NVIDIA fucked up. Even if the number of borked boards aren't shockingly high the publicity combined with the lukewarm reception to begin with due to NVIDIA's weird/failed marketing campaign for the RTX-series have branded this generation pretty badly, something which won't be easy to fix.

Eh. Make a good product and everyone will forget. Do you remember GF FX? Did people remember it when the GF6 line came out? Do you remember GFX280? Did people remember it after the FTX480 came out? People have a short memory.

Last time I tried that (laptop) I got raped by customs taxes :/

Isn't it still less than the "official price"? Here in Israel, product from Asia or USA + shipping + taxes is still sometimes half the "official" prices. Laughing

What a mess! Smile

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

They have another 2080Ti card that won't go faster than 1350MHz on core. Anything beyond that and it crash/freeze.

The monitor-issue goes for all tested 20x0-cards while the hardware-issues seem be specific to a 2080Ti using Nvidias stock board (both FE and non-FE versions).

Sounds like Nvidia slapped fast this odd Turing series together without any testing, then next year the real "turing" cards will come with 7nm process, along with game patches that enables this mysterious RTX. This was just quick cash grab from Nvidia, i think those who have bought 2080ti will be very mad next year Laughing..

second part of the video above

there is also a reply from EVGA in the video:

Quote:
Hi everyone. Yes, we are aware of this particular card and are working to find the root cause of the issue. We have already offered a replacement card to the owner so we can investigate this issue further. From our experience, to have this occurrence out of the box is extremely rare, and actually the only known case today on RTX 2080 Ti that could not be resolved with a firmware reflash. Please know that if you are concerned, have questions, or have an issue our 24/7 Customer Service is standing by at 888-880-3842 or support@evga.com.
