To absolutely no one’s surprise, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has become a monumental commercial success for Activision. The game, which launched just a few days ago last October 12, made a killing in sales. On launch day it already set the record for the most Day One digital sales in the company’s history. That record tops the one set last year by, you guessed it, Call of Duty: World War 2.

karma for last years fail ww2 and bf1 success now its the other way around, bo4 has bigger success than ever mostly because of battle royale mode and bf5 will probably be a financial fail in the end

the game is already way ahead of fortnite and pubg combined in terms of viewers on twich

This game is actually pretty good, royale mode is quite interesting, it's nice to be able to control helicopters in royale mode. Zombies are fun too.

Game is ahead in Twitch only because Ninja and other high profile Fortnite players are playing this now. Ninja and Disrespect are streaming BO4 right now, and even so, BO4 has only twice as many viewers as Fortnite. Plus, it's new. These numbers at this stage don't mean that much.

BUT.

I enjoy blackout a whole lot. Bought the damn game for it, and it is instantly my fav. battle royale by a mile. Very solid gunplay, very good balance, short but intense games. It is very similar to PUBG, this is more arcadey, and with zero jank.

You are comparing a newly released game with a game that has been topping the streams for months. So yeah, your initial statement means squat, singleplayer games get crazy views like that in the first days.

So? Can't you realize that a limited beta and the weeks after release have a similar effect? It's the novelty that attracts viewers and obviously, streamers are cashing on this opportunity. Yesterday evening Fortnite already had 20k-50k viewers over CoD.

Black Ops 3?

Yeah there's little kick or feedback to the guns in this.
Also that scrolling text during load? That's the storyline, it'll probably not matter but puzzling that out is a bit well you'll see if you stick around for the end of the game.

EDIT: Always enjoyed Treyarch's offering from World At War to Black Ops over Infinity Wards COD games though Modern Warfare 1 was pretty nice and the sequel had it's moments too.

And for the newest (Well BO4 being MP only after the SP mode was scrapped.) that's Sledgehammer I believe was the studio behind that?
(EDIT: No the space one was IW latest is USA WW2 story.)

EDIT: IIII -> 4

Roman numerals go! (IV ? What's that.)

Although I guess the weapons feeling a bit well not feeling anything that goes for several of the later installments in the series now. Very Happy
(Hey at least one sentence was kinda somewhat relevant ha ha.)

The Roman numeral system is far too complex for the Call of Duty player base to wrap their head around. They couldn't risk alienating their cash machines! Laughing

Hah yeah I suppose, now they just have to hope they have enough room on the box art after awards and what not for the next few Black Ops games then. Razz

There's not exactly a lot of room left after those have been slapped on as evident by Batman here and Arkham City having it's stylish art completely destroyed by the review score and quotes.

At least I suppose they didn't try to stick the number in the middle of the actual game title.
(Though "IIII" doesn't really fit in very well, small favors I guess because marketing definitively considered it, it's the new cool and edgy thing to do after all.)

not in the 200k, more like 50k-70k, i know what youre saying but BECAUSE this is has a BATTLE ROYALE mode and its CALL OF DUTY and already the top streamers like it more/ or just got bored of the previous battle royale games this will probably remain top on twich

and yes it had a beta and it was free that gave people the chance to test it and if it was shit then probably it wouldnt had so many viewers now since its the same

bf1 had a beta too and probably will have half of the viewers in the first week then mostly in the 10k by the end of 2-3 week, had low viewers in the beta where cod had many

In the first couple of days of Beta, Battlefield 5 was topping on twitch. Battlefield 5 didn't even showcase its BR mode during the beta.
Twitch viewership is not that relevant when it comes to the success of a game. Not all games are as watchable. The streamer also makes a big difference, not only the game that's being streamed. So maybe we should end this discussion here.

And Blackout... Until today I had never actually played a BR game. What a boring piece of shit it is. 90% of it is running around doing nothing. Gear is plentiful so you don't have to spend much time worrying about that. So then you just find people to shoot as the area slowly shrinks. What's so fascinating about it? How did this catch on? Is PUBG better?

I don't really enjoy BR games either for the reason you just put forward, but I can understand why people like it:
- those games are easy to play with a couple of friends and that immediately makes the experience a lot more enjoyable,
- the first couple of minutes can be a very nervous skirmish that's reminiscent of classic FPS games if you choose to drop into an area a lot of people dropped in ( and these areas have the better loot ),
- the area shrinking increases the tension as the game progresses, when it's down to a couple of people you start caring about winning and topping the 98 other players that died before you for a ego boost shot,
- this shrinking area allows you to try to get a good strategic positioning, planning your moves ahead, etc.

While I'm not a fan of the genre, I can understand why people get a kick out of it. There are reasons so many people enjoy it and it can't just be that all of them are stupid and/or don't know any better Razz

PUBG is slower than COD, has better gun play and is more realistic overall but has a lot of flaws related to engine/netcode ( don't know how much of that has improved, didn't boot it up in a long while so take that with a grain of salt ).
Fortnite is cartoonish but has the huge benefit of being free and running well on low-end rigs ( = huge hit for the younger audience, which is the one who can devote the most time into games ), and features the whole construction aspect the other BR games don't - some really master it to a whole new level.

Blizzard even stopped showing player numbers for WoW few years ago. There is no way to tell how many play the games on Battle.net.

I enjoy it for the rare 5 minutes until I get:

- Blizzard server not available
- Ran out of VRAM
- Ran out of space

Rolling Eyes

60 fucking euro

edit:

crashes got more rare for some reason, but still a pain. Anyway I love this game! Maps are so beautiful, killing is so rewarding and dynamic. It's not perfect, but it's very good.

The most polished and fun BR ever.

After 8 years of CoD abstinence, I bought one again. Mainly due to the BR mode ofc which I funnily enough didn't even touch yet. I played the Beta, sure, but I kinda want to burn myself out with the normal MP first since I'm most definitely not gonna buy any of the DLC/Map-packs.

I'm actually quite enjoying it for the most part even though I feel that the spawning system is completely fucked in this one. It was always problematic, but this time around it's kinda worse. Then again, can only talk from experience of 1/2/MW1/MW2/WaW/BO1.

Netcode is also quite shit as usual... reminds me of BF3/4 before the netcode optimizations.

I don't have any problems with connecting to any modes though at all and I play on EU and NA. Takes a minute tops. Maybe it's different for hardcore. Which is sadly atrocious this time around imho (makes me really fucking sad... always preferred HC).

Maybe people's NAT is restricted/moderate Razz (My experience with UPnP is always kinda wonky...)

I'm even sick of the zombie mode now

Enemies feeling like paper targets when you shoot them isn't very satisfying.

And then you're gonna complain that they are bulletsponges when you reach higher waves. Laughing

Yeah, I reached the higher waves. And yeah, having to kill a zombie via multiple shots to the face with a shotgun doesn't feel that great.

Left 4 Dead is 10 years old now and is a much better zombie game. I recall having much more fun with the zombies in the first BO as well.

This game does nothing well, it tries to be a jack of all trades with everything it offers, but the result is a multitude of modes that are all very average. It's like they thought, 'if we just shove every popular thing in there it'll be a winner regardless!'. Battle Royale, Zombies, and a slide of the same old MP modes. Time will tell if it has any longevity but I'm personally done with it.
