Well He should find his answer as why he needs to upgrade.
Find at least one game that he really adores and if it runs crap and he wants to run it at max ultra gfx and has the money then upgrade.

I don't know how well the 5820K overclocks but a 0.5GHz overclock should give it a little boost. I don't see a point in upgrading either.
My suggestion for upgrading would be if you're stuck on Sandy/Ivy Bridge (or older) and/or need more cores.
