Also, what exclusive games are there for Xbox? All the games that I can think of that are not on PC and I care about are RDR and PS4 games. |
Like I said my friends and family have Playstation so in the case of multiplayer in the multiformat games I choose the Sony console for pretty much all titles.
I mistakenly sold my original Xbox One and decided to get another for State of Decay 2 and rather than get the original Xbox One again I figured I’d try futureproofing with the latest model plus after I sold the original Xbox One, Id just picked up a 4K tv which is also made getting the Xbox One X a no brainier.
It’s true and unfortunate that the Xbox exclusives are few and far between or practically non-existentent when compared to PlayStation, at least for 2018 but I was thinking of next year when a new Gears of War and Halo games will release. I don’t plan selling on the Xbox One X so hopefully Microsoft can sort some good and plentiful exclusives. Also games on PC are not an option for me. I gave up PC gaming almost 20 years ago so whereas you can play the Microsoft games on PC, I have to stick to the Xbox.

Smaller, MUCH quieter (PS4P is ridiculous at times, disc noises + fan), has more support when enhancing older titles, a nice selection of gamepass games ($10 a month), and compatible gamepass games can be used on PC
The PS4 has a few nice exclusives, but if those aren't what you're after then I wouldn't worry about it.
But yeah, they're both junk when it really comes down to it. Load times on both are still annoying, particularly when compared to games that are also on PC. I only bought the One X to play with friends and family, but I'm counting on it being better for RDR2 |
You make some good points about the PS4 Pro.
May the NFOrce be with you always.

The Gears series is terrible. Halo I don't like either. But both of those will be on PC. That's why I am conflicted, I fear if I get a One X, which is clearly the better machine, I will only play the same games I can play on PC.
Older titles, I guess, is a plus, but I doubt I will have the time or will to look back at older titles. I am not of the sentimentals usually.

Each to their own I guess. I’ve always been a fan of and played the Gears of War and Halo games, good or bad.
But you’re right you probably would end up playing Xbox games on PC and the Xbox would be a waste of money.
If I had neither an Xbox One X or PS4 Pro I’d still get a PS4 Pro for Red Dead Redemption 2. What is your argument against getting the PlayStation?
It’s like why did I get Assassin’s Creed Odyssey on PS4 Pro when clearly it’s better on Xbox One X? I don’t care that it’s not better on PS4 Pro as long as it’s good enough and in my opinion it’s definitely good enough.
If only Red Dead Redmption 2 was releasing for PC at launch eh? Problem solved lol.
Interinactive wrote: | One other thing I just remembered - the PS4P UI is far more responsive than the One X for some reason. The One X seems to get stuck on loading things / freezing pretty often. Like using an old Android tablet... |
I never had any issues with functionality of the UI on Xbox but the Xbox UI is hideous. Why they didn’t stick to the blades used on Xbox 360 I don’t know!

My only argument is that it's a weaker machine. The X is a much more future proof from a memory and GPU standpoint. If they were equal, I'd have no dilemma.

If you want a console for gaming, get the PS4. Some of its exclusives are among the best games I have played in the last years... God of War, Horizon, Uncharted (4 and Lost Legacy), The Last of Us and the new Spider-Man are all awesome, single-player focused experiences I would absolutely recommend to at least give a try. I got mine purely for the exclusives as I have a decent PC gaming rig and I don't regret a single cent spent on the PS4.

I have a PS4 Pro and bought a one x just before xmas last year in a bundle (think it was Forza Motorsport and AC Origins) and accidentally on purpose broke it after a week or so in order that I could get a full refund when I realised the mistake I'd made.
Why?
Firstly, lack of games/intersest. Even with Forza I found myself playing the Pro much more and in fact felt conflicted as in 'why aren't i using this expensive shiny new machine more', immediate buyers remorse. Serious lack of exclusives of course, but I knew that going in so can't really count that one.
Secondly, owners and some sites rave about how it's top of the pile and native 4k blah blah blah. For what it's worth I never found it to be that big a gap between Pro and One X, and that's on a decent new 4K HDR set. Yeah, it's better specced but unless you want to use that as a dick waving feature then those few extra pixels are nothing that you will miss having a Pro. And native 4K? Yeah, right. Most are still upscaled just upscaled less than on Pro. Again, see above argument as to how important that is to you.
And third, the UI is...in fact, it's unbelievably poor. Looks like it was knocked up in an afternoon by a couple of work experience kids. Tacky, messy, non-intuitive. Ugh.
Also, the machine is one of the new devices I've bought in the past five years or more that didn't automatically switch the TV input via HDMI control when turned on/off. Doing that manually again was a pain in the f'cking neck. Maybe that's not the case for everyone, but all I know is that I have a range of decent, newish devices in my set-up and that was the odd one out!
So anyway, never have I returned a console that I've bought before let alone one that was the 'Most Powerful Console Ever And Ever.' And never have I been so glad to do so!

Nice discussion, i think that if you play on PC there's no need to get an Xbox One X as for me at least it doesn't have any exclusive games, hell even new Halo and Gears is going to be on PC.
If you don't have a PS4 Pro and PC then Xbox could be nice as it plays most multiplatform games better and can play older games like RDR with enhanced graphics.
But for me a Pro i good enough, as it got alot of good exclusive games (not as good as the PS3 but still).
If you don't care about Sony exclusives and money is not an issue then RDR will most likely look better on Xbox One X.

Gotta agree on the Microsoft UI being the worst shit ever. I can't believe they've not fixed that crap. It's like they're aiming at a Snapchat generation of children and not considering other audiences.

You kids... ps3 was worse than the dreamcast.
Dreamcast had better games. Ps3 arch fucked the gamers for its gen.
Ps4 changed arch for the devs but still lacks behind.
Xbox continued its gaming arch from the first xbox. Upgraded and improved features.
Ps4 has some better games but majority of the exclusives focus on the emotional experience (tlou, gow, uncharted) while sprinkling some beefy gameplay expierences. Some stellar one offs as well (spooderman) Gow has a few decent boss battles but the game itself is an emo journey and its shite. Tlou is a slower uncharted and just has tense jump scares sprinkled throughout a cw show. Uncharted 4 was decent cause of graphics, in terms of story/gameplay it was a weaker entry.
Xbox has beefier exclusives but they're one offs. That insomniac game and that remedy game and a couple others. Others are added entries to franchises kids already love. Franchises that went down in quality in previous entries.
Specs dont matter. Games do.
Even switch has like 3 decent games.
Rdr will play fine on both systems.
Rdr remaster for xbox2, ps5 and pc will play better.
This isnt gta5 levels of fuckery of last less than 30fps gen. Rdr will be playable this gen. As it was built for this gen on an improved engine.
Enjoy it on the system you own. Dont tell people their system is worse, sony marketing is ensuring gameplay footage is from their system, they shelled out dough for that. Dont fall for markerting. Dont be silly.

How much does the better HW in Xbox X matter without any exclusives? The amount of detail an exclusive developer can squeeze out of the PS4 Pro is impressive. This will be even more impressive as time goes by judging by history. With consoles you don't buy the HW, you buy the games library IMO.

Im curious how you accidentally on purpose broke your Xbox One X lol. |
well, in UK obviously we have an automatic right to an immediate refund on faulty goods within 30 days of purchase, you don't have to accept an exchange or repair. After that time, you do have to let them repair or exchange it.
So I was hoping to open it up and literally tear something off the motherboard but it proved pretty well sealed and I might have left evidence it had been opened if I forced it, so I just microwaved the fucker for a split second.
Was quite amusing when I took it back to the store and said retailer tried to patronise me 'oh don't worry sir, you probably didn't set it up correctly we'll soon get it working again for you'. Yeah good luck with that! Anyway, a ridiculous half an hour followed while they tried to get it going with loads of different power cables etc. At the end of it all I politely refused their offer of an exchange so they had no choice but to refund me.

I can't judge. I did a similar thing to finish off a 360 which had sporadic crashes many moons ago.
