Seems to be a distinct lack of interest in this game on here, even after the update. Is it really that boring, slow?

It's not boring, but it is really slow. That, and apart from the "storyline event", there was very little repeatability. You'd always have to build stuff in more or less the same order if you didn't want to fail.

That said, I haven't really played since launch, and now that they've implemented inter-domes and whatnot it might be more diverse.

I had fun with it, but can't motivate myself to go back to it now that I've seen most of the unique storyline events.

I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

It's an acquired taste, but yes, it is rather boring, and very repetitive Wink

The inter-connecting of domes is actually nice. Colonists can actually go to work to dif dome and/or use services depending if you allow it. The new update made some quality of life improvements.

It is an acquired taste. Game is slow and you'll build things around the same way not to fail. There are things you can do to raise the difficulty, from selecting different companies, to selecting a harder map to play. Events are a one time shot per game.

I have close to 100 hours in this game. I enjoy it and the slow pace is quite relaxing honestly. The soundtrack is pretty good too.

If you enjoy fixing traffic, then absolutely. That's basically all city building games in a nutshell, but the freeform road building makes it a bit more enjoyable than older games.

Ok thanks. May as well give it a shot.

Really waiting for Jurassic park evolution which should be more enjoyable, albeit simpler, than either, but who knows how the final product of that will end up.

I'd say, skip Jurassic Park, and wait for Two Point Hospital Very Happy

Surviving.Mars.Da.Vinci-CODEX

The nfo does not state Curiosity is included, but I guess it is. Although, admittedly I have not tried the Curiosity vers, so not sure if it's just another name for one of the DLC mentioned in the nfo.

We are super happy to announce our first expansion Space Race!

Space Race pits Earth’s greatest countries and most powerful companies against each other as they compete for the limited resources available on Mars. Whether it’s stealing key colonists or monopolizing crucial discoveries, be sure not to let your comrades in colonizing get the upper hand!

Citizens unite! The race to stake your place in space has begun. Surviving Mars: Space Race, the first major expansion from the survival management game Surviving Mars, is blasting off with a focus on mission sponsors and rival colonies. Pitting Earth’s greatest countries and most powerful companies against each other, Space Race encourages players to choose their sponsor wisely as each has its own benefits and objectives, and other colonies are competing for the limited resources on the red planet.

A Challenger Appears: Compete for milestones, already limited resources, and anomalies with several other AI colonies backed by rival sponsors attempting to set roots on Mars and vie to become this planet’s superpower. You can trade with, respond to distress calls for, issue distress calls to, and even steal important colonists from these competitor colonies as you establish your territory on Mars.
New Money, New Problems: Meet two new players in the fight for the final frontier. Japan and Brazil are now available as brand new mission sponsors and are ready to move heaven and Mars to make their mark!
Earth to Mars, repeat, Earth to Mars: No matter how deep in space you go, you gotta follow the money. Each sponsor comes with its own sets of Challenges to complete as you further their individual goals for colonization.
Represent the Home Team: Each sponsor has their own unique vehicle and building that only their colonies can construct and take advantage of in their mission. Express the individuality of your space-faring conglomerate inside and out of your domes.
Expect the Unexpected: Experience narrative events throughout your colonization process that help reveal the realities of life in the dome and challenge your management skills.

Space Race releases later this year.

With Space Race the player will be able to start a game with several rival colonies also present on Mars. Each of these colonies is backed by a different sponsor and can compete with the player for Milestones and planetary anomalies.

Surviving Mars: Space Race DLC will be released on November 15th!

Sorry for the necro, but I have a question and couldn't find the answer by googling so I thought I'd ask here, since I assume there's people who actually played this or at least have it installed.

Does surviving mars have a proper, built-in ironman mode (like EU4 or stellaris or battletech)?

What you mean by ironman mode? Like some uber difficulty?

There are ways in increase difficulty but applying special rules, using a lower-end faction, and picking a landing location that has low resources and high disasters.

Sorry, I thought the term was established by now, my bad. "Ironman mode" refers to a game mode where it is not possible to reload an older save - basically, whenever you make a mistake, you either restart or continue playing with that mistake.

Examples of games with ironman mode:
-Various Paradox games: EU4, HOI4, Stellaris, Battletech
-XCOM and XCOM2
-virtually any roguelite/roguelike game

I believe Surviving Mars is somehow affiliated with Paradox (who have several games that support Ironman mode), but I found no mention of that mode appearing in Surviving Mars when googling...

It might be kinda hard not playing with save games considering how long it takes to get stuff done. I mean, you could binge play the game all day, but I prefer saving in case crash and stuff.

Autosaving, quicksaving, etc are perfectly compatible with ironman modes. Just that you have only one save file that gets overwritten constantly. You can have 0 progress lost if the game autosaves often enough.

Hell, all in-house Paradox titles have ironman modes with auto-saves.

And "being hard" is kinda the point. Very Happy
