Just completed the "Base story" or how to explain it. Took about 85 hours on with stronger monsters, did spend quite some extra time in the end grinding out some rare mobs for rare items.
Overall a 9/10 game for me, music is a bit on the weak side and the end drags a little bit IMO but other than that it's super solid game.
Now for the true ending and most likely another 30 hours or so...

I assume when you say 'weak music', you've not installed the music mod?

Orchestral or not, the music is still pretty weak, especially compared to DQ8

Music is crap IMO, much too little variety.
@trucane: What do you mean with base game and true ending? Some kind of new game+? No spoilers please.

Anyone got problems with controllers? My Switch Pro isn't recognized by the game but works with everything else.
Even if I emulate Xinput with it, no use.

It's not a new game+. When you beat the game and get the end credits you literally get a "to be continued" in the end.
Not sure how to explain without spoiling but let me leave it at you get the option to replay a certain part of the game and change it which has a huge impact giving you a whole new quest to take on.
Haven't gotten far but I've heard it's probably another 20-30 hours ( maybe more with stronger monsters and such).

What was the symptoms of the crashes before the crackfix? Because I get random freezes after getting the first orb.
The computer freezes with random color on screen and I have to hard reset it.

Crashes to desktop forced by Denuvo at the same area transitions in the game for everyone, what you describe sounds like some of your Hardware is either busted or overheating that's not normal so best try to diagnose what's causing it quickly and get it fixed, my guess is gfx card or power supply judging by the symptoms you describe but memory could also be a possibility.

Yeah, unfortunately it's hardware.

Yes at least in the cracked release, pretty sure it's a patched Denuvo trigger causing it.

Not on my legit version at least.
Generally speaking in 90+ hours I haven't had a single crash or weird slowdown

Yeah it's a trigger then as i said, Codex method of patching them sometimes causes these short freezes/stutter, not that it matters in a game like this.

You're looking at it from the wrong angle, it's just not that kind of RPG, think of it as delving into a disney-ish world full of charm and no focus on realism. For me nostalgia plays a part too, not because I played all the DQ games in the 90s, but because of Toriyama's art (Dragon Ball, Chrono Trigger). It's defiinitely a fun game and the world is a joy to traverse and explore, but keep in mind that it's still an oldschool JRPG, even with all it's QoL stuff compared to older games in the series. Atleast there are no more random battles though, you can see the enemies on screen and that's the most important thing for me.

yeah, i guess it's not really for me.
I don't mind fighting cute creatures in Mario, but in RPG's i don't think i like it. I have no ties to it (nostalgia etc). jRPG's wasn't a thing when i grew up with games, it came much later. I never was a fan of "fun" looking creatures either, hated Disney (Donald Duck and Co.) as a kid hehe
I remember trying to play some early Final Fantasy game too, everyone praised that game. Started off really great, then i met the first enemy type, some large birds in colorful hats. aaaand i was out. i mean its not enough that these creatures makes very little sense, they also have to put that fucking hat on them too, just to make it even more bizarre
I'll play Xenoblade Chronicles instead, emulates really well and looks awesome + better enemies..

Xenoblade Chronicles is a better game for sure and one of the best designed open worlds imo.
If you like exploration like me, you will love this game, just give it some time initially as it's huge and has alot of content.
EDIT: I read that as Xenoblade Chronicles X for some reason, but the first game has a great world too. All the Xenoblade games are at the top of the JRPG ladder of the past 2 decades imo, nothing really comes close.

i meant Xenoblade Chronicles X.
Yeah the first game is nice, tried emulating the "new" Switch version but unfortunately it doesn't work. would like to replay it at some point.

1 and 2 both have focused stories and large open world-ish zones.
When X first came out, some people shat on it for it's lack of a focused story, but that's because it's just more free and open in nature. It has a single large open world instead of separated zones and is more focused on the hundreds of sidequests, meeting different alien races and building your relationships with them. The exploration aspect is definitely the best in the series and I can still remember so many details about the layout of the world and it's sheer verticality that no other game has replicated imo.

It's quite spectacular what they did with such a simple console.. the design is fantastic too everything from world design to armor... i'm just 10'ish hours into it but i really prefer this design in comparison to the first.

On Switch you can only play 1 remake and 2.
X is currently stuck on Wii U/ Emu, but everyone pretty much expects it to get released on Switch too eventually.
Meanwhile you can play 2 if you haven't, it's a great game like the first one, with improved combat.
1 and 2 are related in a certain way but I don't wanna spoil anything, while X is it's own thing and so far has no connections to the other games.
