Hey!
I wonder what's NFO opinion on theatrical vs director's cut/extended" editions of Your favorite movies? Not that I am looking for validation of my own opinion but it might just be an interesting discussion.
Here is little website to help You learn what's what:
http://thisorthatedition.com/

Let me start:
-Pitch Black - Extended.
-Chronicles of Riddick - Give me anything Riddick extended!
-Alien - Theatrical. No need for many weird edits and while I like the cocoon scene, it does not fit with sequels and breaks the pacing in the middle of auto destruct timer!
-Aliens - Extended. Have not seen in a while but I remember liking additional scenes. Need to re-watch to decide if it's not too long.
-Alien 3 - Assembly cut. It's actually a good movie now.
-Terminator 2 - Theatrical - while I like few of the added scenes in the special edition(smiling scene), I feel it's too long and drawn out.. and I hate the shitty old Sarah ending.
-The Shining - Theatrical US. Extended is too long, adds ton of boring scenes, especially in the beginning of the movie with Danny and mother as well as unexplained spooky skeletons. I like the added Halloran scenes but it all breaks the pacing too much.
-Dawn of the Dead 2004 - Extended. more gore
-Dawn of the Dead 1979 - 2:07 Theatrical US release. European argento release is weird, extended release is not bad but too damn long and breaks the pacing.
-Donnie Darko - Theatrical 1000%. I even like some of the music changes in dc but why did this idiot director felt the need to add stupid matrix like visions and separate the movie into book chapters. Totally too explained and breaks the movie.
-Abyss - Extended/special. Now the movie makes sense but it's still too long.

On the side note - Not sure if I will ever find extended version of Punisher 2004. Never seen it but I love that movie and would like to check what is added. Hope they will someday make Event Horizon directors cut and The Thing 2011 directors cut(with puppets which were apparently filmed)
I've also never seen extended Gladiator... I have it but need to find the time. Not sure I would even remember what wasn't there originally.

Nope...
Majority of the movies you listed are mediocre.
Hard to watch a mediocre movie twice in various cuts.

I watched extended deadpool 2, couldn't even stomach to watch og cut.

Usually studio puts out the cut that is decent, and directors cut usually fucks it up and their ego fucks shit up even more. Some shitty scott movie in dc not whitstsnding.

Total REcall dc was the worst piece of shit ive seen only to see ethan hawke.

I don't really like most of the recuts, extended or director cuts I have seen. I think I may be used to the theatrical versions and these recuts often completely change the pace of the movie, and that almost always puts me off.
The DC of Lรฉon, for example, is horrible in that aspect. It slows to a crawl in the middle, completely ruining an excellent action movie (especially the bunch of additional, cringy pedo scenes, especially in light of what is now known about Luc Besson).

There are some exceptions, of course, like Watchmen or the above mentioned Kingdom of Heaven (DC is almost a completely different movie than theatrical and pretty good).
The first DC of Bladerunner is also better than the theatrical with its shitty voice over and happy end. But the other 67 cuts released since are just unnecessary.

LOTR DCs are pretty good, but the overal pace in the theatrical cuts is already pretty slow, so additional footage doesn't really ruin the experience.

There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.
